TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - By nearly a 2-to-1 margin, Florida voters disagree with Gov. Jeb Bush's request to investigate any possible delay in a 911 call after Terri Schiavo's 1990 collapse, according to a poll released Thursday.
But 49 percent of the voters surveyed in the Quinnipiac University poll approved of Bush's overall performance as governor, compared to 40 percent who did not. A similar poll two months ago found approval from 51 percent of voters and disapproval from 39 percent.
In the Schiavo case, 59 percent of voters said they disagreed with Bush's request earlier this month that a prosecutor look into whether Michael Schiavo waited to call for help after finding his wife. That figure was almost double the 30 percent who agreed with the request.
Fifty-eight percent of voters said they thought Bush's request was motivated by politics, while 32 percent said it was sincere conviction.
The 41-year-old brain-damaged woman died March 31 after her feeding tube was disconnected at her husband's request, despite years of efforts by her parents, President Bush and others to keep her alive.
Bush requested the probe of the 911 call after an autopsy found that she was almost certainly in a persistent vegetative state. Michael Schiavo called 911 at about 5:40 a.m. on Feb. 25, 1990. He testified in 1992 that he found her at 5 a.m. , and he said in a 2003 television interview that he found her at about 4:30 a.m.
"I am aware of no explanation for the delay," Bush said at the time.
Fifty-eight percent of the poll's respondents said they agreed with the decision to remove the feeding tube, including 46 percent who said they agreed strongly. Twenty-four percent of respondents disagreed strongly.
The poll also showed that 70 percent of respondents, including a majority of Republicans with an opinion, say Bush shouldn't run for president in 2008. The governor has consistently said he has no interest in that race.
The poll of 1,248 voters was conducted June 22-26 and had an error margin of 3 percentage points.
Just like his elder brother.
I wonder how the questions were worded. I've been polled and they are questions designed for a specific outcome.
I'm guessing there was the "I wouldn't want to live like that" factor.
I just read Mark Fuhrman's book, Silent Witness, btw, and highly recommend it.
I am about 60 pages into it and it seems very informative and factual.
Thank you for the link.
It was a very dramatic difference.
..agree or disagree with [ removing TS's] feeding tube?
Reps 3o% agree strongly...36% disagree strongly
Dims 43% agree strongly...25% disagree strongly(!!)
..approve of the way [GW handled the TS case]?
Reps...57% approve....37% disapprove
Dims...17% approve....79% disapprove (!!!!)
So you can see why the overall averages where messed up..too many dimwits voting!
The Quinnipiac poll is screwy...they left out the results for the "people who have left the Republican Party because Jeb didn't do enough and the Constitution Party rag The Empire Journal told them so."
Then they'd have 99% approval for the investigation of Michael Schiavo, but only 1% approval of Governor Bush.
Well if that doesn't look a just little lopsided. LOL
I don't believe that result for a minute.
Do you have the link?
How do you know The Empire Journal is the Constitution Party's rag? If true, that would explain a few things.
June Maxam Chestertown , NY June wears many hats: publisher of The North Country Gazatte and co-publisher of The Empire Journal, Coordinator of the NYS Oaths Project.
June was severely retaliated against for reporting on corruption and eventually jailed for exercising her First Amendment right to free press
a battle spanning nearly 20 years and still unresolved. June is responsible for uncovering the vast number of judges, DAs, Sheriffs etc. who are in office illegally.
Ginger Berlin Albany , NY Ginger, like Maxam wears many hats. Berlin is the co-publisher of The Empire Journal, State Chairman of The Constitution Party of NY and columnist. She is a judicial activist and devoted constitutionalist.
We hope to see you there!

Thanks for the links.
Do you fear The Empire Journal?
And I Doubt TEJ is as you misguidedly claim-
a "rag of the Constitution Party"
But heck any party with allegiance to the Constitution is A-OK! That Party sounds a lot better than what we have now-Asses and Elephants!
Thanks for the tip! Ill now look into to that party!
