I know of two indian campsites. We dug a latrine in the middle of one of them (that's how we found it). No bones yet, but if we find them, they're ours. We did find a couple really nice arrowheads. The sites are on private property and the owners would love to let some university dig them up but they are afraid of the government, so they let us poke around the site . . .

Born to Conserve?

How about you start conserving with this site! You know, they don't make 'em like that anymore!

Seriously, these sites can answer some pretty interesting questions. Go easy.

I would take FReeper Coyoteman's advise. He's a professional archaeologist and has recently published a book on the Coastal Indians of California.

There are some "Indian" sites around here that don't coincide with the culture of any Indian tribe. Maybe I'll investigate.

I've got a display board right here with about a dozen Clovis points and two dozen later points. I also have one point that's obviously European. It came up in the tailings from a water well dug in my dad's back yard. The well was about 125 feet deep ~ that was where the surface was during the last Interglacial in Central Indiana.

I doubt the Europeans ever met the Clovis people, or the Chinese who followed them to America.
