The American Spectator ^ | 6/30/2005 | John Samples

"I mean, Pence meant it. At least I think so, and I'm pretty cynical. He warned against big government Republicanism and against a GOP that thought the federal government was the solution to every social ill."

Fine. Have all the faith you want. I actually approve of that. A person with deep convictions and faith is a person who's reactions you will always know the source of.

But don't tell me you want smaller government and then purpose MORE government.

If Cornyn gets a 100% rating from the ACU, then their numbers are screwed up.

The ACU will list Pence at a lifetime of 99 but that is not accurate. It is 100.In 2003 He received a 100 but the website lists him at 96 that year.Mike Pence has never voted in opposition of the ACU.

The house is a more accurate indication of conservatism.

Then your side has to make a deal as well -- agree to use persuasion and example, but NEVER coercion, to get people to follow your preferences.

As President George W. Bush consolidated his power over the Republican majorities in both houses, voting in Congress has changed more dramatically than any time since the American Conservative Union has been measuring the legislative process in America. The ratings for 2003 show a dramatic lowering of the conservatism scores for Republican members of Congress and the liberalism scores of Democrats declined too. The overall result has been a strong shift in Congressional voting to the middle, presumably where the president wants to be politically facing an election this year. But the cost has been a rapid increase in government spending and a decline in conservative voting generally.....The pattern is best illustrated in comparing the House ratings in this and the preceding years. In 2002, 60 House members scored a perfect 100% conservative rating (compared to 37 the previous year and 28 the year before), while only two had perfect scores in 2003, Mike Pence (IN) and Zack Wamp (TN).

That was just for 2004. In 2003 Cornyn only scored an 85. We will see what he gets for 2005. The ratings are based on a series of important votes during the course of each year.

LH

Then we are REALLY SCREWED. If you think this is "conservative", then we've got problems with definitions right off the bat.

I do not understand your point.I am every bit libertarian in the limited government mold. I would abolish Social Security,The Department of Education,Medicare, the FDA etc etc.We can not get there overnight. If you can't work with to accomplish this because I do not support Gay Marriage,Abortion,Flag burning,Legalization etc etc, isn't that nuts? Pence is the definition of Conservatism not GWB.
Yoou should give Mike Pence another look.

I will be 34 during the 2008 election - not old enough to constitutionally hold the office. :)

Maybe in another year then. I'm 36, but I'd make a horrid President. I'd be tempted to bring back dueling as a method of "getting along" with Congress.

Yeah Ron Paul, is a "true' conservative" when he gets in bed with dennis kookcinich, and basically says, all we are saying, is give the terrorists a chance.

Representative Ron Paul (R-TX) (C) gestures at the podium during a news conference on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., June 16, 2005, regarding legislation calling upon the Bush Administration to produce a plan to withdraw troops from Iraq. With Paul are representatives Walter Jones (R-NC) (L), Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) (2nd L) and Neil Abercrombie (D-HI) (R). Photo by Chris Kleponis/Reuter

You say you are a "conservative". You say you want smaller government. And then you turn around and want government to interfere in Religion, Freedom of speech, and two isssues that the Federal Constitution gives the FedGov no authority to regulate.

It isn't me that needs to compromise here. You want smaller government? The nyou need to realize that somewhere, out there, someone may be doing something legally that you may not approve of.

Dueling! LOL I love it!

You'd really be able to cleanse the Senate then!

The only thing fat Ted wants to duel with is a cheeseburger.

The Swimmer would be tried for Treason and indicted for "failure to render aid". POssibly manslaughter if I can fidn a Grand Jury that would finally want justice for Mary Jo.
