"I mean, Pence meant it. At least I think so, and I'm pretty cynical. He warned against big government Republicanism and against a GOP that thought the federal government was the solution to every social ill."

Pence is a true conservative. He believes Kirk's belief that "all political problems are at bottom religious and moral problems" and Pence is " a Christian,A Conservative, and a Republican in that order" If libertarians will join with true conservatives they will have to put up with Things like the Flag amendment, marriage amendment, and Stem cells. But in the end True conservatives and libertarians must unite to stop the advance of big government. If we do not do it in 08 it will never happen.

Mike Pence is the epitome of why libertarians who really believe in liberty (as opposed to the anarchist flavor that seems to be so popular nowadays) line up solidly in favor of conservatives in this day and age.

Things like the Flag amendment, marriage amendment, and Stem cells.

If you want to stop the growth of the FedGov, the first step would be to STOP purposing EXPANSIONS of it.

Appears that the only difference between the dems and the repubs on the domestic front is no longer how much to spend, but rather, where to spend it.

Both parties now appear to embrace big government and lots of spending.

Than again, it really is the fault of those who vote; not those who spend. The citizenry can change things if they really want to; it just appears we don't....

No the first step would be stop the Medicare bill.Pence come vote shy of doing just that. While the libertarians just shout and sit on their hands while government grew.Pence,Toomey, and Shadegg got in there and fought. We need results. We need someone who can lead.Freedom? I do not want to live in a country where life is not valued,I do not want to love in a country where homosexuals are able to join as one unit,I do not want to live in a country that lets Saddam run around gaining strength.Pence has it about right.

There are a number of other excellent conservatives, particularly in the House. Steve King of Iowa would be one example.

So you've got a chip on your shoulder about gays, ok. Are you that insecure that the thought of other people doing things you don't like upsets you so much? How soon after imposing your own version of everything "Right and Good" for America would you require cameras in bedrooms to ensure people aren't doing something naughty? After all, if you aren't doing anything wrong then you have nothing to hide right? Right?

As for Saddam, getting rid of him was a good thing and one of my major disagreements with the modern LP. It's also probably the LAST reason I have to approve of Bush at all. his pushing CAFTA is really getting old in a BIG way.

If you need to be "lead" to freedom, then you really don't want freedom all that badly. Do you? I commit several instances of civil disobedience daily because I refuse to follow blatantly anti-freedom and unConstitutional laws.

What are you doing?

Oh,yes. There are about 25.King is great. He is the best congressman who voted for the Medicare Bill. I think he knows he made a mistake. He will be very important in 08, as non-liberal pointed out that district(Iowa 5) will decide the Iowa caucus.I know King knows that Pence is a viable option for 08.We will see what happens.

You didn't read my first post.Conservatives believe "all political problems at bottom are religious and moral problems" My concern is not of man,but of something higher. If you want electoral success and a limited government,You will have to put up with the fact that many conservatives have deep faith that affects the way they vote on moral issues.I think we will get 90% of all libertarians to make that compromise and get on board.
