A white Howard Beach teen was charged yesterday with the racially motivated baseball-bat beating of a black man who had wandered into the Queens neighborhood with two pals after trying to steal a car, police said.
The vicious assault left South Jamaica resident Glen Moore, 22, in serious condition at Jamaica Hospital with a fractured skull.
The beating echoed the 1986 bat attack in Howard Beach on three black men, one of whom was fatally struck by a car while fleeing a white mob....
Mayor Bloomberg visited Howard Beach last night to quell racial tensions.
"We will have no tolerance whatsoever for hate crimes against any group in this city," he said. "I think New York City learned a great lesson in '86, and we're not going to let that happen again."
Moore's mother, Chandra Eison, told The Post, "No matter what our skin color is, we should be able to go wherever we want to go.
"To drag us back 200 years is unacceptable . . . For another kid to bash him in the head is unacceptable."
Yesterday's incident began at 3 a.m. when Moore and two other black men, Richard Pope, 25, and Richard Walker, 20, were in nearby Lindenwood, searching for a Chrysler 300, which someone offered them $6,000 to steal, police said.

I think this should be handled by arbitration and negotiation. South Jamaica should agree not to send any more of its' "yout's" into Howard Beach for criminal purposes, and in return Howard Beach would agree not to beat up any more car thieves from South Jamaica.

This article is on Drudge with the heading of a race crime......WHAT am I missing here...3 black guys go to steal a car and someone defends their neighborhood.....He should be the hero...but the Criminals are the "victims"...come on America..lets get this right..I think they should be shot

He wasn't a thief! He was a financially disadvantaged youth trying to make a better life for himself and his family by participating in the redistribution of wealth!

There is an obvious solution here. Have the city buy new Chrysler 300s and then sell them to anyone that will pay $6000 for them. That way hate crimes would be reduced.IMHO
There's no such thing as a hate crime, it's a stupid liberal PC idea. It harkens back to 'All pigs are equal, but some pigs are more equal than others'. Victims get hurt in crime. There are not acceptable reasons behind a crime, that is why it's called a crime, and not a political statement. If liberals want hate crimes when blacks and whites fight it out, then i demand it be called a hate crime when a mother offs an unborn baby so she can look pretty at prom!

When I was growing up in Brooklyn, a tyhief caught in the act could expect the bastinado.
The only thing I find surprising is that the car thieves were not shot like they would have been in South Philly.

All I've got to say is, thank god this didn't happen down south; they'd have called out the national guard, and we'd be hearing about it for months on the national news.
How do these northern cities get away with being so segregated? Double standard?
I worked in South jamaica for a number of years. Street crime was out of control, largely because of the plethora of crackheads and gangsta wannabes.
