The SUV guy probably had a cell phone and could have called the cops.

I'm with you. Unless the black guys were actually committing a crime, what we have here is a senseless assault (not a hate crime, just a senseless assault). They'd have gotten off easier if a car was actually being stolen.

And after the cops took their usual 15 minutes to arrive the car would have been long gone.

People trying to steal cars arent hard to spot they are looking in the windows trying the doors, looking around to see who is watching.

Yes this guy could have just driven away, but I have a feeling he has had his car stolen previously.

Many white men would have cowered in a doorway and watched as the thieves drove the car away. This fellow is fed up with piss poor police protectioon from thieves who wander in and out of a neighborhood stealing as they go. When the police cant or wont do their job who is left?

The black thieves will walk and this fellow will get a year or two in jail. Todays Justice.

"The SUV guy probably had a cell phone and could have called the cops."

You've probably never been victimized by a crime like this. How do you think the police would have responded if he called? If they had actually stolen the car, what do you think the owner would have had to go through? What do you think the chances are that he'd recover his property, and if so, that it would be salvageable? What do you think their punishment would have been had they actually been caught by the police and brought to trial?

Since the justice system does not deter crime - minimally punishing crimes such as car theft, people will take things into their own hands - for better or for worse. I guarantee you that THIS will be a deterrent to car theives in this neighborhood.

And the cops do not have to respond. That's the LAW -- at least according to the US Supreme Court three days ago.

No kidding. In Delaware County, PA, a lady called 911 as she watched a vehicle being stolen in broad daylight. The operator told the caller that she dialled 911 for the city (Philladelphia) and not the county (Delaware county) and to redial. The lady did and got the same operator. This occurred 3 times and the caller argued with the operator to just send police or connect her to the appropriate 911 operator. The operator hung up on the lady and the car was stolen.

You think cops would do a damned thing about someone intending to steal a car?

I'm not criticizing cops per se, but car theft is a total non-crime issue. People are barely charged or punished for it any more.

Too bad the potential thief is in serious condition. (I'm sure this was not their first attempt at theft...) Solely because the guy who did it will get a harsher sentence.

"Hate" crime my a**.
