they aren't related to the Boston CoC cult. Neither is the mainstream Church of Christ related to the cult. I'm not sure if the UCC is a spinoff from the CoC, but I don't believe it is. I think the UCC is descended from the Puritans (!) while the CoC developed in the 19th century.

The United Church of Christ is the result of a 1959 merger between the Congregational Church (Puritan descendants) and the Evangelical and Reformed Church (German Evangelical and German Reformed, adherents to the Heidleberg Catechism).

It prides itself on being "inclusive" of everything and anything except those who would establish any boundary of faith and morals. Such persons, labeled "judgmental", are the only pariahs. The only Creed is that there is no real Creed, or, more precisely, so many statements of faith are used that almost any, or none at all, are perfectly acceptable. Another mantra is that "you can believe what you want to believe."
