They'll be free by suppertime. The US Border Patrol isn't going to do anything, they're still trying to prove the Minutemen wrong by sitting and doing nothing (as a matter of fact, that's what their agents were doing before the Minutemen happened along).

I agree completely. It can work. The details can be worked out.

I still think the deterrent needs to be something physical, such as electric shock... rather than just a video camera and a sensor. Sensors still require a human to react and CATCH the person crossing the fence(s). And easy way to get around that is have several groups attempt crossings at the same time within one zone - our guards can only respond to a certain number of crossings, so multiple crossings at the same time would allow some to get through.

But electricity (or some physical deterrent) would remove the weak link of requiring a human response to all attempted crossings.

Again, I'm just typing off the top of my head, so I haven't thought out all the details. But the point is it CAN be done, and the details CAN be worked out. We agree on that.

Did you know that after the Gulf War, former President Bush permitted 6,000 Iraq Republican Guardmen to move to this country? It was in exchange for them standing down during the war.

Do you happen to have an on-line link for this?

Thanks

It's cited in Jayna Davis's book The Third Terrorist. Wish I could help more than that, but it's all I have.

Good point,

Perhaps a simple Tazer strenth zap, to immobilize long enough for them to be picked up and tossed back.

An electric fense between the two walls that provided that zap would be good.

Bush will say nothing about this, it's sadly going to take an explosion for him to see the problem.

All that will do is promote the newest version of the Patriot Act. Some FReepers will cheer! Blackbird.

If you come across an on-line link to that, let me know.

Thanks Peach.

I will, Black Tooth.

I'm thinking some of the Oklahoma papers had the story too.

I don't have an online link but checked the book and there is this information in the book; I'll only highlight a short section of a larger discussion about how Republican Guard and other high ranking Iraqis ended up in the US after the Gulf War.

Page 133: "According to a December 2002 article published by LA Weekly, investigative reporter Jim Crogan discovered an influx of 6,000 ex-Iraqi combatants had immigrated to the US in the wake of Gulf War I, with only "cursory scrutiny".

later on that page...

The potential danger of sleeper agents emplaced in the homeland by a foreign power did not make headlines until
Washington Times national security correspondent Bill Gertz disclosed a CIA analysis that prognosticated and "85% chance that Saddam would use proxy terrorists to strike within the US" in advance of military operations.

That might have been why the border was so tight...but knowing the border guards, who wouldn't open fire on anyone trying to cross the border, wouldn't it be smarter to build a giant wall right next to a new Panama Canal...oh wait, hopefully Hillary won't run and sell it to the chinese.

I'm pretty sure that Carter GAVE it to the Panamanians.

Selling would have been an improvement. Not much of one admittedly. I understand that a Chinese company has been contracted by the Panamanians to run the canal. I could be wrong, because I do not remember the source.

I have hidden camera home movies of my 8 and 12 year old boys back a FEW years ago, sitting around the kitchen table with friends making jokes about keeping an eye on Carter, because he just gave Hawaii to the Chinese.

From the mouths of babes...........

"What about electric fences? What about Guard Dogs that eat people? What about land mines in the "dead zone" between those two fences? What about rules of engagement that allow shoot-on-sight? What about moats with pirhana? What about moats with deadly electric shocks every minute?"

"All the guards and fencing in the world won't do any good if there's no CONSEQUENCE to being caught between the two fences. DEATH is a pretty fair consequence."

I like the way you think. It will eventually have to come to this.

How do they know they are Iraqis? Because saying they were Saudi would be suspect?

That's exactly the reason they did it - what good is it to hit the east and west coast, when all the voters and powerless voters are in the middle?
Hit the heartland and change the power-holders in the country.
That's it.
Even they get our culture - and yet it still eludes the power elite.
They want the entire country to be in fight-of-flight mode - if they can't crush us, they will try and scare us to death.
Unfortunately for them, I lived through 8 years of Clinton - I no longer fear anything ; )
