The term Jesus was not contrived as a way to get back at the Church they had previously broken away from, the same cannot be said for "Jehovah"

Actually, the term Jehovah dates back to the Masoretic Jews' translations of the Old Testament (or TaNaKh, as the Jews call it) in the 11-12th centuries. It had nothing to do with "gettin back" at Catholics.

It comes from taking the four consonants of the Tetragrammaton (ancient Hebrew did not use vowels) and superimposing the Masoretic vowel markers for the word "adonai," the Hebrew word for Lord.
