``We don't want you at the rink, we don't want you in the stadium, we don't want you to watch hockey,'' he said Saturday at the Mario Lemieux Celebrity Invitational in suburban Pittsburgh. No kidding. ;)

I think his dream will come true.
Once the season starts, there will be far fewer fans in the seats, lower TV ratings (if they even GET a TV contract), and the NHL will find out how irrelevant they really are.

Jack Kent Cook, former owner of the LA Kings and Lakers when asked about lack of attendence at Hockey games, replied:
"Sure, there are 500,000 Canadians in living in LA, they all moved here for one reason; THEY HATE HOCKEY!"

What an arrogant pompus &$%hole. I guess it's easy for him to say that since he has money coming out of every orifice in his body.
What's funny is that Robert Esche (Flyers goalie) is siding with the owners and saying that players are being greedy.

``We're going to try to make it better for everybody, period, end of subject. And if you don't realize that, then don't come,'' said Roenick, who spoke at a charity golf event he played in over the weekend. . . . . ``We don't want you at the rink, we don't want you in the stadium, we don't want you to watch hockey,'' he said Saturday at the Mario Lemieux Celebrity Invitational in suburban Pittsburgh. What a numskull. He actually thinks he is paid to play hockey, when he is actually paid to entertain the fans. No fans, no money.

I think you'll be getting your wish, JR. Get used to 4,000-5,000 attendance figures, even in Philly. You'll see an initial surge and then it will fall off a precipice.
I don't blame players' greed per se, I blame the sport as a whole for: overexpanding into markets that don't care, overpaying on unsustainable revenue, interconference games that mean little or nothing to the fans, and ticket prices that mean younger fans or large families can never reasonably afford to attend games and build interest for the next generation.
When the NHL folds or dramatically contracts, in spite of this new agreement, remember all of the above.
I can't wait to see the attendance for the next Columbus vs. Atlanta game. I hope it's nationally televised.

I saw the interview on TV. He also said the fans who are unhappy can "kiss my ass" and "go screw yourselves". Classy guy.

"we don't want you in the stadium" -- Went there for an outdoors expo once.
"we don't want you to watch hockey" -- Why start now!

I made that decision about professional children's games around 30 years ago.
Haven't missed it one iota. If the wannabe doofuses want to throw money at these morons, it's a free country.

League management needs to have a word with this guy; I think he's taken a few too many pucks in the head. He's just become the poster boy for the NBA.
