And I, as a conservative, don't give a hoot as to whether the media and the populace at large (2/3 who likely can't name the VP or SecDef) likes our president. I expect leadership and tough decisions during difficult times. We've got 'em here.

Likeable? Why? That's WAY down on my list of qualities a leader needs to have to lead well. Not that I actually believe the opinion polls on this one.

This is what separates Bush from recent Presidents - he knows political capital expires worthless, unless it is spent. Spending capital EQUALS lower approval ratings. I admire him - though I don't always agree with his decisions.

Clinton lived for approval ratings and never spent them to accomplish any great thing and his Presidency expired worthless.

You pick which you'd prefer.

"I as a Republican want my president to be likable, reelection time or not."

The only people I know who give a crap about something like that are liberal democrats. (AKA ignorant wastes of space)

I as a Republican

I, as a conservative, could care less if my President is well liked. As long as he is abiding by the Constitution and protecting our Rights.

If the President was doing MORE to piss off the liberals, then he'd be doing a good job. He's only done about half of what I would expect from a Conservative. He's also done things that are entirely TOO liberal while trying to be "liked". McCain-Feingold and unquestioned expansion of Federal budgets come to mind. Has he forgotten what a Veto is?

I'd like him more if he'd publically RIP into the G damned SCOTUS!

What you are saying in essence is that YOUR President must FOLLOW [the polls] to get as MANY people to LIKE him as possible! That is a recipe for disaster.
