WASHINGTON, June 27 - After a meeting with Chancellor Gerhard Schröder of Germany, President Bush said Monday that it was "unacceptable" for Iran to continue pursuing a nuclear program and strongly embraced European efforts to negotiate a deal to halt it. President Bush said on Monday that he and Chancellor Gerhard Schröder of Germany had agreed on a firm line on Iran. After an election in Iran that the administration dismissed as a sham, Mr. Bush said Monday that the United States and Europe were sending the country a "focused, concerted, unified message." Iran's new president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, vowed after his victory in the vote on Friday to move forward with the nuclear program even as he continues discussions with Europe about ending it in return for economic benefits. "A process which would enable Iran to develop a nuclear weapon is unacceptable," Mr. Bush said during a joint appearance with the German chancellor in the Oval Office.

"President Bush said on Monday that he and Chancellor Gerhard Schröder of Germany had agreed on a firm line on Iran."
Yeah, that Heir Shroder also agreed to a hard line on Iraq too, until it came time to pony up.
Follow the link to see the quote from Schröder. He made a comment that was very affirmative to what our President said.
Yeah, it sucks but it's part of the gig.
Time to let loose the Isrealis. Take the reactors OUT!
If Hillary wins in 2008, Bush should start a shooting war with Iran just before she takes office and then hand it over to her. Just so she can prove she really is the smartest woman in the world. And so we can get an idea of how JFK really would have handled Iraq.
Gerhard Schroeder is in a world of hurt. His social and labor "reforms" have done nothing to stem the free fall of the German economy. Unemployment is officially at about 10%, but if you include the make work McJobs and government fudges off the books, the figure is closer to 20%.
He came begging to Bush for a photo op to help him politically. Bush made nice with him, but that was all. Schroeder stabbed the US in the back, licking Chirac's boots and ruing an alliance that took 58 years to build.
What a horrible precedent to set - nuclear blackmail. First North Korea, now Iran. Which rogue country will be the next to try to blackmail the US and others into giving tons of money in return for a promise not to develop nukes? The rest of the world should get together and demand Iran comply, with verification, or else face military action. Period. End of discussion.
