From the article or Rev. Graham's American revival meeting in New York:
"I was just a little boy and I'll never forget it," said Clinton, who was joined by his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. "I've loved him ever since. God bless you, friend."
Graham called the Clintons "wonderful friends" and "a great couple," quipping that the former president should become an evangelist and allow "his wife to run the country."

When some of you read the above, it probably evoked projectile vomiting. I fought it off. The words of Rev. Graham were not welcome to my ears.
I phoned his offices and let the girl who takes messages know how much I have admired him and how disappointed that he made the comment about Hillary. I told her about Juanita Broaddrick and Easter Sunday in 1996 with the intern right after Easter Service. I let her know that it is the Clintons who mock religion.
The girl calmly told me that the reverend made the statement as a joke, it shouldn't be taken out of context, and he is not endorsing Hillary Clinton or the Democratic Party. My suggestion to her was that he should make a public statement and clear the record.
Regarding Broaddrick, she said that she doesn't know if Clinton has asked God for forgiveness. That is between the former president and God. By comment was that he should make a public apology to his victims, and Hillary should make a public apology to his victims, the ones she went after behind the scenes.
Reverend Graham, please clear the record.

Correct.
My fingers were faster than my brain on the spelling.
I must have forgotten that also. He really did say that?
If true, his statements this weekend were no joke. More like his ministry received tons of calls on this, and the twist came in.
You are not referring to BC, are you? As a sister SB I'm convinced that Billy just "got wet" when he was baptized... nothing more!
I think Graham was being a little facetious but still one of the dumbest things he has ever done.
100% CORRECT - HITS THE NAIL ON THE HEAD!
IMO, he is and always has been a panderer. Whether he knew or not, that Nixon was somewhat anti-semitic, he went into a private meeting with Nixon at the White House and made pointedly anti-semitic remarks, which were caught on tape. I think that this man tries to be "loved, admired and respected" by the powerful, whenever and wherever he crosses their paths.
Just my opinion, but it certainly looks that way to me.
On doctrinal matters, he can't have it both ways: going around for some 6 decades preaching about "sin" and retribution, and then forgiving everyone everywhere for everything, as though sinning is no big deal. That's the LIBERALS' position! No one is guilty of anything to liberals! eg: "It was ONLY about sex..."
What has Billy Graham's ministry been about, then, if he's going to give "absolution" to shockingly immoral (and also amoral) people like BOTH Clintons?!
Char
Yes he really did. Several people on one of the other threads discussing the crusade remembered this clearly as well. Though I am Catholic now, I was raised Southern Baptist & grew up to have high respect for Billy Graham even after my conversion. He lost it all with those statements.
You said it.
Very disappointing.
I've listened to so many of his sermons since the 1950's.
And this just leaves me very disappointed.
Re #44 - That is the exact verse that came to my mind whenever I first read about the Clintons being on stage with Dr. Graham. The Lord will be the judge of us all.
My comment was sort of tongue-in-cheek, but it's generally the case with all denominations. Those within one's own denomination is often considered "more" of a brother/sister than those of another denomination.
No doubt a better decision, but we old folk often speak out of turn.
See my post #91.
I hear what you're saying, WVNan, and I should add no offense was intended. If I remember correctly I think Algore and Carter are also Southern Baptists. I may disagree 120% with their politics, but they may very well be brothers in Christ.
BG didn't joke about any of these things:
Do we joke about adultery?
Do we joke about taking advantage of a young girl his daughter's age?
Do we joke about selling access to the White House?
Do we joke about selling our national security to the Chinese?
Do we joke about being impeached, losing one's law license?
He didn't endorse Hillary!
I joke about Hillary but I'm not endorsing her.
It was simply a joke. I laughed and others laughed.
The media is making this into something it is not.
You fell for it. Do you really think the media likes a person like BG? He doesn't endorse their values or lack of belief. Of course they are going to jump on him and hope others will do as you are doing!
I don't have it in my heart to trash a good man who spent over 60 years of his life trying to bring others to Christ. That's wrong in my book - over a joke, no less.
BG was at the side of Presidents who are Republicans and Democrats. This is nothing new. People are over reacting.
I don't believe that for a second. Oh, the dems and Clinton MSM friends will continue to try and make it so, but it's not going to happen. The Clintons can fool some of the people all the time, and all the people some of the time, when they are dealing with charletons and godless gurus. But Billy Graham is different.
"A guy walks into a pub and places a little tiny man on the bar with a little tiny piano.................."
yes ... .
