I think his comment was akin to Sen. Lott's comment to Stron Thurmond, just a bit if politeness to the persons onstage with him. But Graham should have known the reaction he'd receive.

That may be, but I'd bet my last dollar that we're going to be seeing a lot of that photo opportunity between now and 2008.

And, if Graham passes away before 2008, I wouldn't be surprised if the Clintons subtlely hint at an "endorsement" from him. After all, he wouldn't be around to defend himself.

I think we are just watching an Icon grow old, he has mellowed and isn't as sharp as we need him to be. I noticed
when he was answering a question on Lary King, one particular drawn out answer had nothing to do with the question.

He needs to go home and just retire with his beloved wife.

Bill Clinton has about as many credentials to be an evangelist as Ted Kennedy has to run the AAAAA. (roadside assistance for drunk drivers) =P

Billy Graham got his invitation to take his dog and pony show behind the "Iron Curtain" in the early 80's, and the only quid pro quo was his announcement from the stage that he saw no persecution there. The local Christians suffered terribly as a result of that remark.

I am not a fan of "crusade evangelism." Graham's own statistics indicate a 4% success rate -- 96% of those who "go forward" at his meetings never show up in church. The techniques perfected by American pelagian Charles G. Finney ("revivalism") are tailor-made for inducing false conversions.

He's 86 now - at this point he probably doesn't care what everyone else thinks. If he considers the Clintons to be friends, I have no problem with that. But if Hillary tries to use this to her benefit, she will look like the opportunist that she is.
