Camden Dad Rages (Father of one of the boys who suffocated in car trunk)
New York Post ^ | 6/27/05 | JOHN DOYLE and CYNTHIA R. FAGEN

The grieving dad of the 11-year-old mentally troubled New Jersey boy who suffocated in a car trunk with two younger pals blames the state's social-services agency, saying it should have put his son in a facility where he could have gotten help.

"If he would have been put in a safe place, this wouldn't have happened. The child needed a lot of help," Anibal Cruz Sr. said yesterday. -snip-" [The division] did nothing," Cruz said. "Why didn't they lock the baby somewhere safe? When kids need help, they have to help them."

Officials said one of the boys had played before in the car, which was owned by Anibal's maternal grandmother. It had been sitting for about three weeks in a shaded, weedy corner of the Cruz family's yard.

The prosecutor said the hydraulic plunger that keeps the trunk from closing was not working, so the lid was able to swing close and lock as soon as the boys stopped propping it up.

He said some periods of hard rain on Wednesday evening may have muffled any noises from the well-insulated trunk, which was parked far enough from the house to make it difficult to hear any voices coming from it.

Yep. Lawsuits.

And of course since these people have no money - - and likely no insurance of any consequence - - the search for deep pockets is underway. Ahhh! The state! Yeah, those taxpayers have plenty of money.

All that's left is to see who the scumbag lawyers will be. My prediction is that the scumbag lawyers will be politically well-connected enough to set up a "settlement" with the state after a period of noise, threats, and media assistance. Campaign contributions to follow. That's the way it works - - corruption at its most basic level.

And why does it work? - - Take a gander at the jury pool, lol. Like the OJ jury, most of them couldn't spell "DNA" if you spotted them the 'D' and the 'A'. They don't pay taxes and so what do they care if "the landlord" has to shell out a few hundred grand? The jurors know they'll be invited to the happy party afterwards.

I remember those stories from the '60s! The National Enquirer had one about a kid who somehow got trapped in a junk yard and had to eat his own foot to survive! Patrolman Sherman Henderson stated, "Little Bobby may grow many more inches, but he'll never grow another foot."

Yes. Accidents happen.

It;s just sad that when accidents happen, everybody starts pointing fingers at the Police, the Departement of Youth and Family Services, Toyota, Anybody-Within-A-Five-Mile-Radius...

It was an accident. There is enough blame to go 'round, but nobody wanted this to happen. DYFS is everybody's favorite whipping boy, but if they had tried to do a commitment on this boy last month, you wanna bet his parents would have raised Hell about that, as well?

I wasn't married into the family at the time.. they tried to have a second child and he was stillborn. I know, it's almost unbelievable. They did try again and now have a nearly 4 year old son (he was born in 2001). They're doing alright... she's out of the Army (health reasons) and he didn't re-up...he works in the National Guard now.

I never said it was far-fetched. How does anyone know that the trunk was accessed in the manner you indicate?

I have not heard about these releases. Are they on cars now? Mobsters across the land are upset at that prospect.

"It is a hateful place (America?) where hearts are torn apart while chattering tongues are on constant lookout for a way to paint others in an unfavorable light."

Just here, my friend.
And here's a woefully poor "core sample" of America if it's her heart you're trying to measure.
You know that already too, or should know it.

Now then.

We spoke -- in some detail -- of the *ordeal* you & your bride were about to endure at the onset.
Remember?
What's different now from then?

Write me (off-line) or call (& you've the #).

...let's talk.

That is what I think too.

Back to the question of the release. There was a teenager from a local suburb who was kidnapped recently, locked in a trunk and later killed. He was able to make a call on a cell phone but no one could help. With such a release it may not have ended so tragically.
