There was a time when fear and hatred of gays was drilled into young people the way seat belt safety is now. A chunk of the country would like to go back to those years, when homosexuals could be safely reviled and brutalized

I grew up in those days. I missed all the lynchings and cross-burnings and gay bar bombings. When did all that horrible stuff happen?

LOL I must have missed it too. The worse thing I ever participated in those days was to go over to the Haight-Asbury in SF with a bunch of friends, drive around and mock the hippies. I rarely saw or would even have recognized homosexuals.
