Tom Cruise criticized NBC "Today" show host Matt Lauer on Friday when Lauer mentioned Cruise's earlier criticism of Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants. Cruise told Lauer he didn't know what he was talking about. "You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do," Cruise said.
The interview became more heated when Lauer, who said he knew people who had been helped by the attention-deficit disorder drug Ritalin, asked Cruise about the effects of the drug.
"Matt, Matt, you don't even you're glib," Cruise responded. "You don't even know what Ritalin is. If you start talking about chemical imbalance, you have to evaluate and read the research papers on how they came up with these theories, Matt, OK. That's what I've done."

It's those E-meter thingies that L Ron Hubbard invented that cause this I am sure George Bush is at fault./sarcasm on.
No aspirin but if you're having an allergic reaction to radiation he'll have you take some niacin.
XENU ---> XINU which is UNIX backwards!!!
all these anti-open source guys from Microsoft here on FR have been right all along! UNIX is part of the plot by the scientologists to take over the world!!!! Flee!
LMAO
The problem with the scientologists being so anti-ritalin, etc is that they do have some valid points. I personally think way tooo many people are being put ritalin and anti-depressants.
I know of several boys that are on ritalin, and the parents never tried any thing else to help those boys. My son's old private school told me they thought he had ADD. I pulled him out, and had him tested at the public school. My son is gifted and was bored stiff in the private school. He didn't need any drugs, just good teachers.
However, there are people that really need these things. My mom is a manic-depressive and on lithium. I have no doubt that she would be dead if not for that drug.
Anyway, the scientologist are just making people that are leary of pyschotropic drugs seem crazy.
Not only am I saying that, I'll say it about Mimi Rogers too.
The technical term is "beard." The pop-culture term is "cover girl."
that was too funny!
What about the ending of the movie? Do tell....please. I'm planning on seeing it anway.
Ah, a graduate of the Tom Cruise debating college.
The way this one ends is hilarious!
ROTFLAO! Water headed down my throat was misdirected through my nose while reading your post!
I'm no fan of Ritalin myself. :-)
As a bit of background, I remember long ago that little Tommy Cruise was dyslectic in school (perhaps hyper, too). He had to learn the lines to Risky Business and Top Gun by having someone else read the script to him.
I also seem to recall that his 'religion' has lots of flash points with modern psychiatry and psychology.
So this is probably a big hot button for him. He should be a mature enough business man to just keep his mouth shut, though, on the whole topic. He's destroying not only his profit, but the investment of time, money and reputation of all of the other people who participated in this film.
Maybe he should take time out to write a scholarly tome on the evils of Ritalin. Movie-promotion interviews are not the time or place to be taking on that task.
On the other hand, another down week for movie openings is like music to my ears. ;-)
Pinz
I believe Penelope Cruz was also a beard. In return for their cooperation, Cruise promises to make them a star.
The only problem with scientology is that they are against any psychotropic drugs for anyone at anytime. I think that goes tooooo far.
However, the medical and education establishment is also pushing the psychotropic drugs to cure all sorts of things, and I think they are going tooooo far.
Some people do need these drugs, but not as many as are currently on them.
Thetans kill the Martians and brainwashed Elron Hubbard into starting his little cult.
OMG. LMAO!!
Does he still have money? Well then of course he'll need more expensive auditing to get clear.
