U.N. to Press Rwandan Genocide Case

UNITED NATIONS -- The United Nations will ask France to take legal action against a former U.N. employee accused in the killings of 33 Rwandans in the 1994 genocide, after an internal review found the world body bungled his case and failed to protect its Rwandan staff.

Callixte Mbarushimana, who has lived under refugee protection in Paris since 2003, vehemently denies the charges and says he would welcome his day in court. Rwanda has a warrant for his arrest on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity.

For the last year, U.N. officials have quietly pressed Rwandan authorities and the U.N. war crimes tribunal for Rwanda to seek his extradition, without success, and are turning to France.

"We've exhausted the possibilities," Mark Malloch Brown, chief of staff to Secretary-General Kofi Annan, told The Associated Press. "We are going to ask the French authorities where he's resident to pursue a case against him."

French justice officials refused to comment until they get the request from the U.N. Development Program. U.N. officials, who agreed to discuss the request only on condition of anonymity because the note had not yet been delivered, said the note would not specify whether France should prosecute Mbarushimana or extradite him to Rwanda.

They stand by and watch 800,000 people get murdered, then they pat themselves on the back at their "courage" in calling for the prosecution of one of the thousands of murderers.

There needs to be legal action taken against the UN itself for disarming the intended victims of the genocide as part of the "peace process".

Maybe they'll investigate the UN official who had a chance to stop it, the head of the Department of Peacekeeping Missions at the time. Wait, that was Kofi Annan. I guess we son't be investigating him.

I thought maybe they were going to prosecute Kofi for ordering the troops back to barracks.

Yeah. That might ever happen to the Hero of Rwanda.

I'm not one of those who engage in bashing the French people, but they are internationally recognized as a safe haven for the worst criminals on earth. Is it because they are afraid these monsters will get the death penalty anywhere else?
France used to be renown for their invention of the guillotine, a most humane way of execution. I predict that either these criminals, or the far right or the peasants
will put them all to the guillotine. The French people are
passive/aggressive. They are passive for a while, and they tolerate this stuff as long as they have their comforts. Then the light goes on, and in a mass hysteria, men, women and children start dropping the blade. They are well overdue.

I read somewhere where that movie about this, Hotel Rawanda was it? That had Don Cheadle in it? I never saw it, but I read that it was shot very carefully not to make klintoon look bad for his inaction. Hollyweird covering up for the idiot. Imagine that.
