Vice President Dick Cheney was asked on CNN about the 'Downing Street memo' which said the Bush Administration had decided to go to war with Iraq and the intelligence would be fixed around that policy.

Asked if he disputes the memo's claim, Cheney said, "Of course. The memo was written sometime prior to when we actually got involved in Iraq.

"And remember what happened after the supposed memo was written. We went to the United Nations. We got a unanimous vote out of the Security Council for a resolution calling on Saddam Hussein to come clean and comply with the UN Security Council resolution. We did everything we could to resolve this without having to use military force. We gave him one last chance even, and asked him to step down before we launched military operations.

"The memo is just wrong. In fact, the president of the United States took advantage of every possibility to try to resolve this without having to use military force. It wasn't possible in this case. I am convinced we did absolutely the right thing. I am convinced that history will bear that out."

As Hitchens said, "fixed around policy" is British-talk for "constructed around policy".

OOO I know how the DUmmies will hate this. Evil Cheney and his buddies at Halliburton are slashing our only chance at impeaching Bush (A.B.B.)!

Way to stick it to the liberal media, Cheney.

If the DUmmies expended their hostility against terrorists rather than Bush, the terrorist threat would be over by now.

I have been saying all along that this fact in and of itself proves all the tinfoil hat RATS are wrong. The decision to invade wasn't final until Saddam had proven he would not leave voluntarily.

I have to retract my previous post, because I realize that the DUmmies are absolutely useless in matters of national defense.

Cheney makes such a great point; people and the liberal media have such short memories. We went to the UN; we got a resolution; we asked Hussein time and again to prove he had no weapons. He would NOT comply. If he didn't have any, why didn't he just let in our inspectors and be done with it? Why won't one journalist ask this question?

The media these days makes it look like Bush woke up one evening and just decided to bomb Iraq. Do we all remember how frustrating long it took to get the war started? How many delays that Bush allowed?

The MSM sucks.

All your points are totally valid and one would think the good of our country should become first option.

But the fact is the MSM thinks President Bush is a far greater menace that the islamic nazis which would love to detonate a atom bomb in one of our cities.

{YAWN}...when the Bush haters come up with the original documents instead of the forgeries they are trying to pass off, let me know. Until then, this is a non-story.

If they do manage to do that, God forbid, then at least let the NY times building be at the epicenter. They after all, have done everything they could to assist them in their goals, let them be the first to reap the harvest of the crop they sowed.

Thank you. I was just going to call you on that one. They are utterly useless on national defense.

LOL, he is accused of being a part of the "vast right-wing conspiracy"!

One of the few leftists in the world that understands how to deal with Islamo-facists...

Hah! It is argued that he "may have been bluffing" because of Iran or, as Rush said once, he wanted to be a stud in the Muslim community...
