Release Date: 6/23/2005 11:10:00 AM

By Chief Journalist Melinda Larson, Commander, Destroyer
Squadron 1 Public Affairs

SATTAHIP, Thailand (NNS) -- Musicians from the U.S. 7th Fleet Band "Orient Express" and Royal Thai Marine Corps (RTMC) came together for a series of performances June 20-22 during the Thailand phase of exercise Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT).

The two bands practiced with the RTMC band before performing separately and then together as a group at the Thai Austrian Technical College and the Singsamut Elementary School in nearby Pattaya.

“Music crosses all language barriers. We’re speaking the same language through our music,” said Musician 1st Class Alex Gowland, Orient Express’ unit leader.

Playing popular jazz, blues, and rock songs together, Orient Express musicians were challenged by the Thai tunes.

Good to see you made it back in one piece.

5 members showed, eh? That's great. At least three of them are putting on a shotgun skills and safety clinic for middle-school and high-school aged kids tomorrow at the Sportsmen's Center on post.

Washington Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Bradford Mingle, in the blue cap, was serving in the Joint Visitors Bureau's Protective Services Detail in Afghanistan on Father's Day while his daughter, Washington Army Guard Spc. Jessica Mingle was serving in Iraq. Mingle's wife Karen and son Leonard are also Army Guard Soldiers in, respectively, Washington and Pennsylvania. U.S. Army photo by Master Sgt. Bob Haskell.

KABUL, Afghanistan, June 24, 2005 — He was in Afghanistan. His daughter was in Iraq. His son was in Pennsylvania. His wife was holding down the family home in the state of Washington. It was not your typical Father's Day for Washington Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Bradford Mingle.

There was, however, an important tie that binds this Mingle family of four from Puyallup, Wash. They are all soldiers in the Army National Guard, and they are all committed to the global war on terrorism.

So Bradford Mingle had many reasons to be proud of his far-flung family and the organization they were serving at home and in two combat zones on the third Sunday in June.

“We all believe in what we're doing,” said Mingle a few days before fathers throughout America observed their day with special breakfasts or barbecues.

Yep they talked about that but the group of kids we have are too young. Did tell one of the crew about the Camporee with 11-18 year olds that we'll have on Oct 8th at the Bisbee Municipal Airfield and that may be something to have a booth at.
