KANDAHAR, Afghanistan : Afghan and US forces have killed 132 Taliban militants and surrounded four of the ousted regime's top commanders after a three-day battle in the south of the country.
The brother-in-law of fugitive Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar is one of the key figures under siege in a mountain hideout, the Afghan defence ministry said Thursday. The claim could not be independently confirmed.
"132 Taliban were killed," in the operation in a restive area on the borders of Kandahar, Zabul and Uruzgan provinces, defence ministry spokesman Mohammed Nu'man Atifie told AFP.
"If you look at the number of the men they've lost we can say that their backbone is broken," Atifie added. "It has been a great, great success for the government."
Thirty-two rebels were killed when the offensive began early Tuesday and a further 100 insurgents were killed later Tuesday and in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Mian Nisheen district, the spokesman said.
Most of the militant deaths occurred when US warplanes armed with laser-guided bombs and supported by British aircraft pounded suspected Taliban safe havens, US and Afghan officials said.

ping
The numbers keep getting higher....keep pounding them boys..
This can't be true. Nancy Pelosi said it was all over years ago!
Hmmmmmmm.
You have no chance to survive make your time.
This is an excellent enemy. You can say any sort of garbage about them knowing that it's probably true.
A good find? Nice to see they've still got their eye out for the good Mullah.

I pinged dead.....he has one eye devoted to looking for Mullah Omar.
No mater how many we kill, they'll pop up again. It's still going to lead to revenge either way. Its mostly tribal warfare that we are dealing with there.
And we'll kill them when they do....the Taliban provided the breeding ground for 9/11...the more we kill of the bastards the happier I am.
LOL. It was dead who inspired the comment.
"Taliban safe havens...?" The only ones I know of are in other countries. In Afghanistan, there are villages that support the TB, as someone noted it is largely tribal and clan-based. But they don't get an aerial "pounding" for that.
What gets bombed, for instance, is a walled compound exchanging fire with US or Afghan or other Coalition forces. And they can drop the bombs exactly on the bad guys without whacking the kids a couple rooms over.
They can still sting us but -- only over there -- and everyone over there is a volunteer.

Might be a good time and area to resume testing the MOAB!
Somebody please inform Nancy Pelosi that the war in Afghanistan isn't over. She must not listen to the news because she definitely won't read this in the MSM.
Only 132.Not good,take no prisoners.
Is that supposed to be a joke? Isn't he the one-eyed, one-legged, one-armed Mullah?
Well then. There's nothing else to do but surrender now and hope they have a good swordsman who will take off your head without making too big a mess of it.
It's a quagmire. It's Vietnam.
