Beijing (VNA) - President Hu Jintao said both China and Russia want to further promote their strategic partnership.

In an interview with ITAR-TASS in Beijing on June 21, President Hu said that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin have established a close and friendly relationship. The two leaders have met each other eight times to frankly exchange their views.

China and Russia have supported each other on important issues relating to national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Cooperation between the two countries in the areas of politics, economics, trade, and military has increasingly expanded.

Two-way trade increased by more than 20 billion USD in 2004 and is expected to reach 60-80 billion USD in 2010.-Enditem

Right. Tese are the two countries that had a silent war for 30 years.

Don't believe it!

China and Russia want to further promote their strategic partnership.

I'm thinking that Russia no longer has a choice in the matter. They have armed a 2,000 lb. gorilla which lives next door.

BS.

On the surface it seems they're getting closer (i.e. military sales, etc.) but if you look at what has been happening -- Russia isn't selling the best weapons to the Chinese. China still has 1.5 million troops deployed on the norther border -- Russia is still its biggest threat despite all the rhetorics against the US on Taiwan.

Besides, historically in the last 100 years, Russians took more lands in China than any other country. There was the Sino-Russian war in 1800's that gave Siberia to Russia, then there was the Mongolia secession, etc. etc. etc.

Just look at where China's troops are deployed and you know who they view as a threat.

You're welcome. I'm trying to keep an archive of links on the situation but miss quite a few along the way (time constraints).

Good for you, I am glad to know who will know where they are
at, if I want to reread them.

Yes, I save the links, but my saving has got out of hand.

I wish that the archives/bump lists were listed on the
general news thread sidebar, then it would be so easy to
get more information on a special subject and not miss so
many.

Several of you have put a lot of work into collecting the links.

Thank you.

The article you pinged to me is very good, I am glad that I
had the chance to read it.
