Democrats are demanding that White House adviser Karl Rove immediately retract and apologize for comments that liberals responded to the Sept. 11 terrorist strikes by wanting to ``prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers.''
``The one thing New York has had since Sept. 11 is unity,'' said Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. ``To inject politics into this and to defame a large number of people'' is outrageous, he said. ``It's not what New York and America is all about.''
Rove, Bush's chief political adviser, said in a speech Wednesday that ``liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers.'' Conservatives, he said in the speech to the New York state Conservative Party just a few miles north of Ground Zero, ``saw the savagery of 9/11 and the attacks and prepared for war.''
Rove said the Democratic Party made the mistake of calling for ``moderation and restraint'' after the terrorist attacks.
Schumer said Democrats were drafting a letter asking Rove to retract his remarks. Jim Manley, spokesman for Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., also called on President Bush to ``immediately repudiate Karl Rove's offensive and outrageous comments.''
Rove also denounced Sen. Dick Durbin's comments comparing interrogation at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp to the methods of Nazis and other repressive regimes. He said the statements have been broadcast throughout the Middle East, putting U.S. troops in greater danger. The Illinois Democrat has since apologized for the remarks.
``No more needs to be said about the motives of liberals,'' Rove said.

He said "liberals" not "Democrats".A line worth remembering after Dems exhaust this ineffectual, self-righteous outrage. We can pin the tail on the donkey here if Rove isn't already on the job.
They don't have a leg to stand on. They're as hyper-sensitive about their image as Hollywwod starlette....and for good reason.

Why are liberals so upset? Karl Rove described them accurately as they really are. You would think they would celebrate a Republican complimenting them on their socialist philosophy. Finally they can be themselves at last. But they're mad as hell. Why? Its one of those things that leaves one befuddled about liberals - after all they're the ones always in a high dudgeon about ethics, openness, accountability and transparency. You'd think they'd welcome it here.

Therapy? Therapy is killing terrorists!
Killing terrorists is freeing the world from tyranny and oppression, that is great therapy! Indictments? What for? see the first two sentences...
The demorats have became the party of useful idiots for the terrorists. If, for one second, the dem's think that they are going to get a seat in a world governance by terrorists, they better think again. Once terrorists rule, they'll kill the problem that threatens their regime.

Rove said the Democratic Party made the mistake of calling for ``moderation and restraint'' after the terrorist attacks.Wrong, AP! Here is what rove said:
Submitting a petition is precisely what Moveon.org did. It was a petition imploring the powers that be to use moderation and restraint in responding to the
terrorist attacks against the United States.

The second quote is not accurate. Rove did not say "democrats", he said "moveon.org."

However, let's assume that this is an accurate portrayal of what he said. You were correct. The AP quote is out of context (at the very least.)

The greatest possible mistake now would be to replace complacency with battle -rage. Throughout history wars only really end when when an enemy is willing to accept peace on any terms that their opponent will offer. Conflicts "settled" otherwise are merely time outs until the next round.
The quickest path to a settled reslut is fighting to win and battle rage is an excellent tool to channel the energy necessary to win.
Inotherwords, if we had not listened to idiots like this article's author the war with terrorism and fanatics would be over. As it is we are merely approaching the end of round one. There will be other terror attacks and wars in an ever climbing escalating of blood and horror until the preachers of moderation are completely discredited.

I couldn't agree with you more.
Let's take 1930s European appeasement for example. Where did that get us? An all-out, balls-to-the-wall war. Sure, it looked good in the short run, but all it did was give Hitler a little more confidence every time he had even a minor victory.
Now lets look at 1945. Japan got hit pretty hard when we unleashed the awesome power we had. Two cities destroyed in two different days, without having to land a single troop. THAT's power. And where did it get us? Well, last time I checked, Japan is one of our greatest allies.
Yes, the War on Terror will be like a pendulum. I just hope that we wake up soon and go all-out and win their complete surrender through total fear.
"The quickest path to a settled reslut" ~~ what the hell is a "settled reSLUT?" ~~ just joking!
I see the War on Terror, and appeasement, and all that very similar to a parent disciplining their child. If you give in to the child's demands or make concessions, they're gonna become a spoiled brat, not learn any lessons, and challenge your authority again, and often. If you whip them when they get out of line, then explain to them what they did wrong and how they should handle themselves in the future, then they will be a much more behaved kid. It's just an analogy, but for the most part, it works.

Great point! It's like they are admitting the 'dim' party is nothing but liberals. The dust from 9/11 hadn't even setteled before all the liberal dimwit hangwringing about what WE had done to make them hate us. Kind of funny no finger pointing at the Clintoon administration who had barely removed their sorry butts from the WH only months before after eight years of 'love' towards our enemies.
To: AliVeritas
Exactly. My wife calls this a left-handed apology.
"I can see that you're upset by what I did. I am sorry for that."
"If what I did upsets you then I am sorry."
"If there's anything I did that might have upset you then I am sorry."
Does anyone remember a very funny audio collection of Clinton apologies - He apologized in several languages (including "jive" - where he simply says, "My bad.") It was hilarious.
