Van Zandt County Sheriff Pat Burnett announced Tuesday that he is switching parties.
Burnett, formerly a Democrat, has aligned himself with the Republican Party. He said his decision has nothing to do with the people of the Democratic Party, but hinges entirely on platform issues.
"I'm committed to doing the right thing," he said. "I thought it was the appropriate time to do it. It's not right before my election so it becomes an issue, it's the issue now."
Burnett also said it's no secret that he ran as a Democrat in 2000 because "my mother asked me to."
"I honored my mother, it's one of the basic principles of my belief," he said.
Since then, she has released him from her request.
Burnett said the beliefs of the Republican Party complement his "very conservative" standards.
He is holding a press conference at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, when he will comment further.
Another blue dog comes out from under the Democrat porch to join the Republican pack. At least he is saying that it is for GOP platform compatibility reasons. My guess is that he saw the voting trends turning Republican in his county and decided that he wanted to remain in office. :)
Good for him. The anti-freedom, Democratic Crime Syndicate should be extinct as a political party in The United States of America.
Why am I stuck in a Dukes of Hazzard vortex today? It is very strange.
This seems like an appropriate thread to post that comment on, but believe me, IT IS REAL!
Whatever his intentions, add one to the list of the "good-guys". Let's hope he's got a few million friends.
We sure don't need any more RINOs though.
Glad to have him aboard. Not surprising though. As people get older and have more life experiences(i.e, they mature) they tend to become more rational and conservative. They find a home in the GOP. That is also a reason we must expect all members of the GOP to behave in a manner that is better than the immature behavior of the shrill Democrats.
"As people get older and have more life experiences(i.e, they mature) they tend to become more rational and conservative."
True, very true. But with regards to these days and post 9/11 republican gains I believe that even younger people are waking up to what the other side is all about.
No doubt because the last time he attended a Dimocratic Party meeting, he looked around and said to himself,
"Who in the world ARE these people?"
or more likely,
"What are these people? What hole do they live in during daylight hours?"
"What are these people? What hole do they live in during daylight hours?"
Demonrats can't stand light!
