In a statement issued later, the State Department said the World Food Program ``has informed us that it is attempting to implement a new food monitoring system to reduce the risk of diversion.''

Which means, translated, that the food we sent last year was hijacked by the military and government parasites.((sigh)) the State Department really needs to be purged of its banks of fools and poltroons.

100 million pounds of food is a lot of chow. After Kim is finished eating I wonder how much will be left?

I just think everyone here should get a grip. If you read the text of the press conference, you understand that all of this is closely monitored as it is distributed. Complain about the cost if you want, but I know GWB is not stupid enough to do this if he thinks it's gonna feed the wrong people. I think the cost of the food is low compared to effects the North Koreans getting fed by packages that say USA. The food will help America's standing umong North Koreans, not hurt it. Calm down your own knee-jerk reactions that this is an outrageous waste of money and your wrong assumptions of who actually gets the food.

One question...Why?

Last week the US and N. Korea met. N Korea afterward announced they would return or participate in the 6 party negotiations. A week goes by, the US ships them 50K tons of wheat.

Of course there is no connection between one and the other. I would be shocked, shocked if there was.

How we are involved in this 50 years after the Korean war is kind of headscratching!

I guess I have had it all wrong. Durbin had to be right. See, now we are gonna be the bad guys because the poor, innocent NK's are getting spoiled food (NK army leftovers), and by golly we will be feeding the people that torture their populace in gulags! We MUST send them air conditioners...

Good point. I don't want to see Senator Turban on the senate floor crying about starving North Koreans!

Yes, the people who approved this probably did so out of a false sense of "Compassion."

Yes, the Ronery One will misuse it.

But, it's still right: If your enemy is hungry, feed him ... in doing so, you will heap burning coals on his head.

Are these the same North Koreans that teach there children to hate me and my family or is it the other ones.
Does anyone know of any place on earth, any country any city any province anywhere that does not get part of my paycheck? I would like to send them a thank you card.

It will feed his military and Jong. It will provide them with another day to plot to destroy America. Nice to see our tax dollars at work aiding and abetting the enemy.

Oh hell, while we are at it let's give Osama 50 billion for some organic gardening.

America's tax dollars&surpluses need to help Americans not our enemies.

I wonder who is putting this infinite wisdom into President Bush's head? This is totally unFing believable. NSNR

At least it'll free up the money they were going to have to spend to feed the military. Now they can work longer on their nuke program.

Maybe Dubya can persuade Jimmy Carter to deliver the aid, wrapped in a package with a big red bow on top! And a note that we're sorry for not bringing it sooner.

Some deal has been struck in return for this food.

Whatever it is, I trust the North Korean dictator to honor it just until all the donated food is digested and becomes part of the country's land fills.

My thoughts exactly.  I am sick of this.  This is OUR money.  What gives these people the right to take money out of MY wallet and give it to them.  I get up at 5:00 every morning and drive 40 minutes to sit in a cubicle for the next 9 hours ... and then my money is taken from me and given to people in North Korea????

You know, maybe it's time to get rid of the ENTIRE government and get new people in there.  People who will do what I want for a change!

The only good I can see in this is if we can track the food and prove that it doesnt get to the people, to further strengthen the case against N. Korea (as if we need to!).

How about if we "doctor" the food a little. Have you noticed that Kim Jong-Il is looking more like a woman these days ?

Of course we should feed N. Korea; after all, everyone in our country enjoys three meals a day. (Sarcasm!)

Only 50,000 tons? How stingy!

It's Bush's fault, along with Cargill and Halliburton, of course.

I think all agree that this is surreal!?

Unreal. And we are just one of several making these blackmail payments, "Feed me or I'll nuke you!"
