The world body's decision to investigate Yakovlev was prompted by a FOX News investigation into the staffer. Yakovlev, who handles tens of millions of dollars' worth of contracts for a variety of U.N. operations, is entwined in an apparent father-son conflict of interest similar to the one that engulfed Secretary-General Kofi Annan (search) and his son Kojo.IHC's Chief Executive Officer Ezio Testa told FOX News that he gave Dmitry Yakovlev a job because his father asked him to, a move that came only months after the older Yakovlev worked on a $1.2 million procurement contract with the company.
When the hell will koffi annan follow suit???

From UN News Service:
UN official under investigation for misconduct resigns
22 June 2005 United Nations Procurement Officer Alexander Yakovlev, who is being investigated by the organization's oversight office for possible misconduct, submitted his resignation yesterday evening, a UN spokesperson said today.
"The Assistant Secretary-General for Central Support Services accepted his resignation this morning with immediate effect," the spokesperson said. Mr. Yakovlev was also informed that the investigation by the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) will continue despite his resignation. No further details on the case are available at this time.
In a separate action, the Independent Inquiry Committee (IIC), which was commissioned by Secretary-General Kofi Annan to probe the Oil-for-Food programme, requested last night that Mr. Yakovlev's office be sealed to allow them to access materials that might pertain to their investigation. The UN complied with that request.
