(Vanity) What Would You Do If Your Employer Was Acquired By a "Firm" From Mainland China?

Assuming that you worked at a US (or other Western) based firm, what would you do if a Mainland Chinese "firm"* acquired your employer?

What would you do:

1) During the "courtship" period

2) During the "consumation" period

3) During the "integration" period?

Please share your ideas!

* By way of operational definitions, as I see it, there is no such thing as a firm - in the traditional Western sense - in Mainland China. To one extent or another, every enterprise headquartered there incurs some form of involvement by either local or national government. CCP representatives are placed within each company in various roles. ErBu and other PLA or federal intelligence agents are also, often, assigned to individual companies. At best, a "firm's" life in the PRC is a fascist existence, but more typically it is a hybrid of that, and a more traditional Stalinist state owned enterprise.

I'd quit. But then again, I enjoy quitting.

" Cuz, if mainland China ever "acquired" my employer, then they will have succeeded where Japan, Germany and Russia have failed."

I think they may have aquired your employer during the last administration.

In my area, a company that builds bearings for the rotors on military helicopters was sold to the Red Communist Chinese 5 or 6 years ago...Wages and benefits dropped of course...Lot of funny speaking new employees...Many employees no longer had a job...

I wouldn't want to be a helicopter pilot in the near future...

I work for a Belgiunese company that bought out it's American owners about 20 years ago...They have plants world wide and the new law is all new investments go to China... Since I'm too old, lazy and apathetic to move to another area, I'll just go on welfare while there is any tax money to support me... Oh, there isn't any tax money...Guess I'll just resort to larceny like the millions of others will have to resort to...

Speaking of which, has anyone seen the Lenovo commercials running on TV? Not only are they keeping the ThinkPad model name to fool people into thinking they're IBM, but the laptop in the commercial still has an IBM logo.

As I see it, there are two workable scenarios from the perspective of a Red Chinese company buying an American one.

1. Come in, guns blazing. Fire all the leaders and ensure that only spineless, cowed, followers (but who have intellectual property and are deep content experts) are left. Or ....

2. Take a more subtle approach. Appear to kowtow to the existing leaders. Fly them over to the PRC to wine and dine them. Don't overwhelm them all at once with the new corporate and national culture. Get them to buy into the parent organization and use advanced recruitment techniques. Then, over time, observe very carefully who the real "troublemakers" are. Find excuses to slowly, over time, cull them out. After some period, perhaps even years, turn the remaining acquired leaders into PR leaders to tout the wonders of both the parent org and regarding the PRC in general.

It will be interesting to see which scenario happens.

Depends on the firm.

There are quite a few companies (especially shipping ones) that are owned by Chinese interests that employ all kinds of Americans.

Just depends on who you are, what you do, and the same regarding the company.

Depends on your job but I'd seriously consider finding other employment well before there's a glut in your area of fellow co-workers looking to land on *their* feet. For Maytag, they'll probably move operations out to be competitive (THANKS, UNION ASSES!). Stop buying Chinese-made crap at Walmart. In fact stop buying at China-err-Walmart altogether. Well, except when new music and dvds come out so you can cheat the repulsive RIAA and MPAA (Hollywood) out of their bloated margins by using Walmart's discount power to fight back. If you're at Unocal, your prices are too high (*not* competitive) at the pump anyway, you consumer's-wallet-raping toads!

Also, don't by Cosco products (not Price/Cost Co., it's COSCO... one word) which is an arm of the ChiCom military.

It's bad enough so many products are made in China now, so why support their Gov't / Military - owned corporations when you can buy American-made-in-China (or Mexico) goods instead and keep profits here at home?

That set of commands deletes all files. I wouldn't advise trying it at home. :)
