CHINA'S NEW MISSILE 'WARNING TO U.S.'
World Net Daily ^ | Jerry Seper

Posted on 06/21/2005 7:22:52 PM PDT by Iam1ru1-2

China's newly developed submarine-launched Ju Lang-2 missile should serve as a warning to the U.S. not to underestimate Beijing's military power, say Taiwanese military experts.

"The Ju Lang-2 poses a great threat to the U.S. because it has better precision and guidance and is harder to detect," said Weng Ming-hsien, a professor from the Institute of Strategic Studies at the Tamkang University.

Weng said China probably would deploy the Ju Lang-2, which carries nuclear warheads, on its Han-class nuclear submarines.

"China wants to tell the U.S. that it has never stopped developing nuclear arms," he said. "China also wants to warn Russia not to get too close to the U.S."

Lee Shih-ping, a military expert specializing in warplanes and warships, said Ju Lang-2 posed a new security threat to the U.S. because it could be fired from the sea and reach the U.S. interior.

"China now has a platform to carry and fire nuclear arms," he said. "It now ranks along with Britain, France, Russia and the US as the countries which have nuclear capability. Ju Lang-2 is a more lethal weapon and it is a weapon for invasion."

Both Weng and Li said that the test-firing of Ju Lang-2 on July 16 last year was a warning for the U.S. not to meddle in China's affairs, especially the Taiwan issue.

The Japanese government said Friday that China on Thursday had test-fired the Ju Lang-2 missile, a modified version of China's Dongfeng-31 intercontinental ballistic missile.

Ju Lang-2 was believed to have been fired from a nuclear sub in waters off Qingdao, landing in a desert in China several thousand kilometers away.

The first successful underwater launch of a Polaris missile was accomplished by the USS Scorpion on July 20, 1960.

Wow....China duplicated this 45 years later (with Clinton's help).

That's ok, all of our manufacturing is quickly moving from Taiwan and mainland China to India - we won't need either much longer and without billions of US dollars they will be selling off all their fancy systems.

Well, yes... but take a breath. China would be suicidal to attack their single largest market and the one country that is providing them with the trade and resulting capital to finally build their way out of the bronze age.

They have more to lose than they have to gain.

I really get tired of the cottage industry built up around the threat from China. Lets look at this -
"Weng said China probably would deploy the Ju Lang-2, which carries nuclear warheads, on its Han-class nuclear submarines. "
Simple the Han class is not a boomer. So the article is an outright lie. I might add the Han class suffers from major radiation leaks, and at least two of them have caught on fire in the last 3 years.

That's correct: you're not supposed to fire upon your trading partners.

However, this being a termite colony, the rules may change.

Roger that. But what I think even China understands is that they need the rest of the world more than the rest of the world needs them. They are a source of many cheap goods, but this is a convenience not a necessity.

We could live without China if we had to... but they can't live without us anymore.

What good is a sub based missile system if submarine it's on can be tracked by a 688 or Virginia class from the minute it submerges to the minute it returns to port?

Let them spend money on sub based missiles. They're pointless to have if the launching platform can be tracked.

It's called "Taiwan scare". They do this to want us to help them in case of a conflict, but they're unwilling to buy more weapons.

Consequently, a lot of these "China threats" are designed to boost military spending by other countries.

I also find the article to be BS for an expert. Han isn't a boomer, it'd be either Xia or the new SSBN coming up in development. The only significant part about the missles is that eventually it'll be able to hit everywhere in the US and the sub can stay very close to Chinese shores (similar to Russians with their boomers) where it'd be better protected.

I would tend to agree. The absolute *last* place I would ever want to be is in an unidentified submerged target anywhere in the Pacific Ocean. Especially the Eastern part.

Bad place to be. Short life span there.

WorldNutDaily isn't known for getting their facts right.

>>>"China now has a platform to carry and fire nuclear arms,"

Is that the same platform that blew up when they first tried sending an astronaut into orbit?

^-^

I wish we could challenge him at the court and put him in prison for providing sensitive military items.
