Today, President Bush met with Vietnamese Prime Minister, Phan Van Khai in the Oval Office. Khai is visiting Washington to talk with the President about helping Vietnam join the World Trade Organization. It is the first such visit of a Vietnamese leader since the end of the war. He then addressed the Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting via satellite (the text of which is given here ).
The President also met with Republican leaders in the White House at a luncheon, accepting a compromise on Social Security, and refusing to back down on the nomination of John Bolton, urging Bill Frist to continue pushing for an up or down vote for Bolton.
This afternoon, the President attended the swearing in ceremony of Dr. Ben S. Bernanke as new Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Executive Building in the White House complex.

It sure is, the subject fascinates me.

I have really noticed lately that under 25s hardly have any regional accents any more. Whether for good or ill, probably for good, I think it is a result of this generation of kids having TV , videos, DVDs, as their constant companion from the cradle
Just for the record....
Quoting the hymn "Great Is Thy Faithfulness," Bush said, "Thy compassions, they fail not."
The hymn, "Great is Thy Faithfulness" quotes Lamentations 3: 22-23, "Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness."
I'll bet the President knows that. :o)
You've already seen them, Deb. The wedding pics of my angelic soldier. :o)

The last thing we need in Iraq is a timeline for withdrawal
%%%%%
I just saw an old William Safire column about "exit strategy." According to him the phrase did not exist before 1980 - long after we were out of Vietnam.
Victory is the only strategy.

You have fr mail
Now, snugsy, that howler pulled me right out of lurkerdom!!!
....IMHO we do not really have one.
I've lived in various parts of England, Ireland and Scotland, but for the England part, you want me to believe there is NO accent in the South? Hey, is your nose growing? (Pinocchio!)
You gotta be kidding me!
Trust me here. ALL of England - said another way, everybody in England has an accent!!! What differs is how thick it is and whether you can cut it with a knife!
But I will never allow you to get away with NO accent!!!!
Less accent? Okay.
A different accent? Even better.
But NO accent? No way, Jose.
POLLS, POLLS AND MORE IRRELEVANT POLLS!
GALLUP released a new poll indicating that the President's job approval is basically unchanged at 47% -- surprise, surprise, Gallup put the President's job approval at 47% in June of last year as well!
RASMUSSEN's daily tracking poll puts the President's job approval rating at 50%!
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/Bush_Job_Approval.htm
BOTTOMLINE: The President's job approval ratings have been remarkably stable for the past 12 months . . . If you adjust polling results for the OBVIOUS oversampling of Democrats/Democrat-leaning Independents, the President's ratings remain in the low to mid 50s with almost 90% of Republicans approving of his job performance -- NOT BAD, NOT BAD AT ALL!!!
[FYI: Summer polling mimics holiday polling in its unreliability which is why the President's ratings SEEM to fall in June only to rise again in September -- This summer will be particularly erratic given the unpredictability of gas prices!]

. . . Victory is the only strategy."
Any sane patriot understands this; unfortunately, Democrats and RINOs are neither sane or patriotic!!
Hey, Truthy ((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))), how have you been?????
Did you move from DC yet? New job??? Lots of questions, LOL I've missed seeing you on the Dose.
Started in Hawaii, they are known as "ice cones" or "shaved ice" and they always have flavoring on it. Islanders who have lived without electricity (Tonga, Samoa, other Pacific islands) when they come to Hawaii, usually for College, just love cold foods, like ice cream and ice cones but find that they have to exercise more, as the sugar in these really puts pounds on those natives!!!!
7/Eleven has them now, and I've seen about 4 different names for them - ice cones, shaved ice, flavored ice, and another that escapes me right now.
My predilection for them, after having lived in Hawaii, spurred me to purchase an ice crusher and keep a dandy supply of flavorings at my house. Folks in No. VA never seemed to get tired of having them but were never interested enough in acquiring the ingredients and appliances necessary for producing them in their own homes.
I have never seen a machine with "slush puppy" written on it. What a hoot. I love the name.
Thanks for the polling info. I've decided to take the President's lead on the polls. Ignore them, and throw them out with the weekly recycling.
:o)
