Daley says Durbin Should Apologize for Guantanamo Remarks (King Richard II is NOT amused!)
WQAD [Moline, IL] ^ | June 21, 2005 | The Associated Press

Chicago Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says Senator Dick Durbin should apologize for comments comparing American interrogators at Guantanamo Bay to Nazis.

Daley says Durbin — a fellow Democrat — is a good friend. But he says it's wrong to evoke comparisons to the horrors of the Holocaust or the millions of people killed in Russia under Stalin or in Cambodia under Pol Pot.

And Daley says it's a disgrace to accuse military men and women of such conduct.

Last Friday, Durbin said he regretted any misunderstandings caused by his comments earlier in the week.

He made the comparison after reading an F-B-I agent's report describing detainees at the Naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as being chained to the floor without food or water in extreme temperatures.

I didn't hear it, but I am sure it was sincere. I'm sure he would like to get the reports off his back also, but I believe he was probably mad.

His son recently enlisted, and I believe he quit his job to do so. His was almost 30 years old, and is certainly someone who didn't need to enlist, but started thinking about it after 9/11.

I could complain for a while about Daley, but he is not an anti-military dem.

Daley's son just enlisted not too long ago...

Ah...yeah, that might do it. I think most Dems are happy with the fiction that anything goes in bashing Bush but that they still support the troops. Durbin crossed that line by a long way.

This just happened earlier today.

The local news outlets don't even have it up on their Web sites yet.

Dick Daley has problems of his own with U.S. Attorney Fitzgerald breathing fire down his neck. He will be lucky to survive politically.

Daley is an imbecile. And he would do anything to get or keep power, even say this stuff himself. But he gets very agitated when anyone threatens to rock his boat. For political reasons, he needs to get the ducks back in line.

Expulsion would be better than censure. No doubt about it.

Call or email your Senators and Senator Frist and ask for them to sponsor a censure resolution against Durbin. I did.

He stated yesterday that this was not at the level of a censure. Yes, that's your pubbie leadership - your other faction of this "Two-Party Cartel".

Daley is not happy with this kind of idiocy for more than one reason. His son, Patrick, just enlisted in the Army after getting an MBA from the University of Chicago. Patrick is a patriot. And such stupid comments just lose votes for the Rats. While he is happy for any distraction from the thieving, looting and general skullduggery of his administration I don't think this is why the Mayor has said this.

Comments such as Durbin's are worth their weight in gold to those patriots who care about their country. Each word can be measured in votes lost. Speak up Dick the nation wants to know what you really think.
