Since I have to get to bed, I'm just going to paste what I placed into the coffinnails.com forum. There's relevant questions inclused that I'll place on this thread if they get answered.
Day one -finally got my seeds!
Them things are SMALL! Sheesh! I had to fuzzy up the end of a Q-Tip to place them into the trays. Before I screw things up, there's a few questions I must ask. The 200 seeds I got are Dark Virginia. I'm doing 16 at a time.
Will the unused seeds keep for a while? I'd like to grow 'em in staggered stages. Will regular tap water work, or will I have to use distilled or rainwater? I have to used that kind for my Venus's Flytraps. Flourescent lighting. Will it work well for staggered stage growing year-round? Humidity? Someone told me that nicotine is a natural insect repellant. Is this true? Has anyone here saved the $$$ they expected to save? That's why I'm doing this. What's the best soil to use?
Luckily, there's a big place near my home called Paulino's Gardens, where I can find almost all the accessories I need for this venture of mine. I'll update on this thread as I go along.
OH! First entry: Got seeds three days ago and placed them on top of potting soil in 16-cube icetray container with holes in the bottom. Placed trays in my carnivorous plant terrarium that uses three 15-watt flourescent bulbs on a 18-hour timer. Sprayed and soaked with rainwater. Crossing my fingers.
Last question for the day: How long should it be before something actually grows?
I had no luck with the chiltepins last year, so I didn't even look for any this year. My habaneros OTOH are growing like weeds :) and the anaheims are flourishing.
A FReeper friend picked up some seeds of his favorite chili in New Mexico and sent them to me. I'm debating about wether I should just straight sow them into the ground or start them inside first. What do you think?
Well, would you say that those are arguments for or against legalization? Is "medical morphine" just a scam perpetrated by people who want to be able to get it for recreational use?
This year I started seeds indoors for the first time in a long while. I went to Wal-Mart and bought a starter set from the garden section; it's a plastic tray with a clear lid, loaded with X number of peat pellets. I bought two of the 72-pellet trays to start my peppers in, and they sprouted like weeds.
I helped things along a bit by putting a small electric heater under the card table the trays were on, so as to keep the soil temps in the 80s. I got terriffic results, much better than planting seeds outdoors.
The first is a real tobacco additive. I was joking about the camel dung and ferret musk glands.
Those don't count because they're not listed on the cigarette package. If it's not on the package it's not there. :-)
I start a lot of seeds indoors - I was just tinking that because it is already so late and the soil has warmed up that I might be better off just direct sowing. I still have peat pots left, so I may just go ahead and do both.
Asian deer tongue extract????????? what the heck is that - or do I not really want to know?
You don't want to know.
LOL!!!!
No way would I want to see morphine or its related derivatives made OTC. My only caveat is that drugs like oxycontin are incredibly expensive and if you don't have coverage you're screwed. Unlike pot which is relatively harmless on a par with tobacco or alcohol, opiates will kill you if your take too much and it is addicitve and you get a tolerance to it as well.
As for medical morphine, if someone has inoperable cancer, they should be allowed as much morphine as they need to be comfortable. What the hell, are they going to get addicted when they've already got a death sentence?
The problem is that you get the people that want ALL drugs legalized clouding a very real issue. Doctors are leery of prescribing opiates because the DEA watches them and it's a heavily abused drug. In other words, it's a helliva complex isuue.
I really don't want some meth head running around paranoid as hell looking for a fight.
I didn't say "Over the Counter." I said "Legal." As in you could go to the Wal-Mart pharmacy and pick up your prescribed package of marijuana. You can't do that now, although you can go buy all the codiene and assorted other opium derivatives your doctor thinks you need.
Curious world we live in, isn't it?
I'd hedge by doing both. Putting those tiny seeds out in the weather is always a crapshoot for me.
"crapshoot" is a perfect term!!!
because of using all the black mesh what I did with a lot of seeds that I directly sowed this year was to take 3oz dixie dispenser cups and insert them in the holes I dug threw the slits I cut in the mesh. I then planted the seeds and as they started coming up, I pulled out the cups. I think I will try the same thing with these seeds, and also do some in peat pots, to be on the safe side :)
If you haven't figured it out yet - I love talking about gardening.....but I've got to absent myself for a couple of hours. It's been lovely talking to you and hope to pick up later!!!
Ok, you mean you want it to be legal to prescribe marjuana, right? I don't have a problem with that. I voted for it here in Ca.
All of your activities in the garden could be used for some other occupation that earns more dollars per hour. Your barn could be used to rent out to others. Just because you don't write checks doesn't mean the costs are not there.
LOL! My Mom tried, bless her heart, but her being left-handed, I could NEVER catch on! I'm (sadly) self taught, but what I do know has been passed to the girls, so at least they're not totally lacking :)
is their parents don't do any of these mundane day to day things
(sigh)
My family spends a great deal of time discussing the rampant stupidity of the general public.
I'm too cheap
ROFLMAO! We need to start a club.... Cheepers FReepers!
It drives my family crazy because I insist on reusing the big plastic freezer bags if all that's been in there is a piece of homemade bread :)
Not a clue. LOL.
During the Second World War, rationing and shortages made many people in Britain grow their own tobacco. One of the most famous was a vicar, who grew his behind the church.
No ill-effects due to home growing reported.
Regards, Ivan
Finally I just decided that it would really screw 'em if I just quit. So I did. Two months ago.
The hell with them.
Is your daughter filing the proper underage work forms and 10-40s?
