Is NYC still evil enough for the Church of Satan? Whither Hades-on-the-Hudson?

Alas, Babylon
Following the 1997 death of Church of Satan founder Anton LaVey, there was some questionat least to those of us on the outsidewhether or not the Church would die with him. But to the surprise of many, the Church of Satan not only didn't die, it flourished. Perhaps it was a sign of the times.
In 2001 the Church's headquarters, which had been based in San Francisco for some 35 years, were moved to New York City. Hell's Kitchen, to be precise. (Where else?)
Shortly after the move, Peter Gilmore, a longtime member of LaVey's inner circle and a Magister in the Church, explained the move to an interviewer: "New York is the perfect city for a Satanist to live in," he said. "It is secular, it is Babylon." He went on to describe New York as having "all the pleasures and wonders of the world..."

"New York is the perfect city for a Satanist to live in," he said. "It is secular, it is Babylon." He went on to describe New York as having "all the pleasures and wonders of the world..." Put Jerry Falwell or James Dobson's name on that quote, and the press would hang that around their necks for the next 20 years or so.

"Is NYC still evil enough for the Church of Satan?"
No, we're just not evil enough. We're the Diet Pepsi of evil, just one calorie... not evil enough.

I thought it was headquartered in Mecca.

The "church" under LaVey was a huge scam. It's no surprise it's thriving now that he's dead.

LaVey's son attended college at San Diego State University. While he was attending there, the son got born again. After that incident, LaVey bought a home on the side of a hill in La Jolla which overlooked downtown San Diego. He used to stand on his patio and do his chants and cast evil spells over San Diego.
Well .. while I don't wish hell for anyone .. it is a choice some people make.

But by 2001, the Giuliani administration's war on fleshy excess had taken its toll. Times Square was touting its new family-oriented atmosphere. The city was hardly the sleazy, dangerous, pleasure dome it had been even 10 years earlier. Four years later, the city continues to change in the same direction. It's cleaner and quieter and safer. Oh waaaaaaaah. Poor widdle satanists don't have a bad pwace to pway.
Why didn't they just stay in San FranFreakshow? It has all the sleazy, dangerous pleasure it wants.

The headquarters rightly belongs in Hillary's state, but maybe in Ithaca.

No, he really was a carney, then graduated to circus folk where he worked with big cats.

Oh wow, where was this last year during the election?
If this wasn't enough to sway the majority of the Catholic vote, I don't know what was.
Good find.

Is New York Evil?
God no. This place is awesome. San Francisco is more evil. I heard that last week they had a Masturbatathon. That's not too family friendly, not such a good place for kids.
