And you know he did, how?
"Put it in writing HOW you want to die or live, and if it's not in writing, PRAY that the courts will believe your spouse"
Perhaps she did not put it in writing because she did not WANT a living will.
Are you suggesting that people should now put in writing that they WANT to be kept alive? I do not believe the law requires that.
Better safe than sorry...
The law did not require that, until it was changed through the precedent set by Judge Greer. It's one of the new laws he created, simply by not following the old laws.
Those words, "I kept my promise", I wonder if what he really promised was to kill her. Rather a general inscription. It very well might not mean what everyone thinks it means.
If I recall, the legal presumption is that one wants to live, and that presumption would only be overcome by "clear and convincing" evidence.
Perhaps greer's unfortunate ruling changes the legal presumption, but the Florida legislature has not enacted a law saying that the will to live must be written.
I understand what you are saying, though. And it is clear how this case has unsettled the legal/ethical considerations.
Quite literally "Silence=Death"
Well, at least we know it wasn't the one that went "Forsaking all others..."
"And you agree that anger is a perfectly valid emotion to permantly emboss a gravestone with. Why is that not surprising"
Your anger doesn't even have to be embossed. It's all out front and obvious.
I am still amazed that people can still defend Michael after what he put on her grave. What a disgrace!
Here is a close up of the grave stone:
MS didn't explain why he got over $1 Million for Terri's care for the rest of her life, if she had alread "departed this earth" in 1990!
One has to consider the outside possibility that he did promise to unhook her from life support, should an unfortunate event arise.
It is reasonable to assume that the court system in fact DID believe that WAS his promise and obligation.
I often wonder if the folks who are so upset about terri, are equally vociferous about the right to express and have that will carried out, even if it is in writing beforehand?
I would like to see a poll on living wills, and courts carrying out their intent against the protests of other siblings, parents or spouses who disagree....
in other words, do the terri schiavo thread reflect a cutlural divide about the end of life, legal right to die and ending life support by artificial means, in the event of a legal document... not just in the 'he said she said' dynamic of the terri schiavo case?
I wish you hadn't posted the picture. It squicks me everytime I see it.
It was very interesting that the MSM only mentioned the "I kept my promise" part, but don't make any reference to the callous "departed this earth on Feb. 25, 1990" part.
"I often wonder if the folks who are so upset about terri, are equally vociferous about the right to express and have that will carried out, even if it is in writing beforehand?"

And if pigs had wings, they could fly.
Terri did NOT leave anything in writing, nor did she leave any clear instructions, or any kind of instructions.
MSM doesn't care about anything but making a nickel. I used to think it was about journalism, then I thought it was about promoting liberalism, but now I just think they'll do anything for money. There's no story too stupid, too painful, or too gratuitous for the leeches.
You raise an excellent point.
In the throes of the Schindler-Schiavo fight, our family filled out our living wills, and as it turned out, we mostly agreed on what we wanted--food and water stays, respirator goes. We agreed on burial plans--bodies being donated to UTKnoxville. And we agreed that if I was on life support and he found a girlfriend and had two children with her without divorcing me, my sister would castrate him with a rusty tin can lid.
Post of the Week!!!! too kewl!
Absolutely. You and I have had political discussions over the years here where we both vigorously disagreed, but were respectful, each supplying documentation to buttress our points. Does that mean we didn't get aggravated and take a snide tone from time to time? No, we did.
But we both know what it is to maintain civility in the heat of debate and we both recognize toxic rhetoric when we see it.
if she would have, or if somebody like her would have... would you then have supported the pulling of the feeding tube?
Do you support a living will, that includes a right to DIE? or would you oppose that too?
It's a simple question I am not getting any straight answers from folks on of late.
