Israel Must Not Sabotage Peace Hopes

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice warned Israel on Friday not to complicate the path to peace with the Palestinians through new Jewish settlements just as the date approaches for Israelis to fulfill a promise to leave other, established settlements.
"We don't intend that the Israelis try to create facts on the ground," Rice told reporters traveling on the plane with her to Jerusalem. "They simply cannot engage in activities that are supposed to prejudge" the final terms of a peace settlement.
Palestinians regularly charge that Israel has tried to force territorial concessions by building settlements and outposts on land that would presumably belong one day to a separate Palestinian homeland. The two sides are currently arguing over whether Israel will build more than 3,000 new homes near Jerusalem.

Building 3000 new homes for Jews to live in is "sabotaging peace hopes" but murdering people isn't? Murdering "settlers", and all Israelis are "settlers", doesn't count. And if destroying 2,000 homes and expeling the occupants is part of the peace process, building 3,000 would clearly sabotage it.
The administration should be judged by their actions, but imo they need to give a little thought to the words as well. Unless they've taken the palestinian side, of course.

What an assinine headline!! Like it or not, that's the AP headline that will run in hundreds of papers across the world.
Actually it's a reasonable depiction of We don't intend that the Israelis try to create facts on the ground, they simply cannot engage in activities that are supposed to prejudge the final terms of a peace settlement.
