Good Monday to you all, fellow Freepers and political junkies. I trust everyone had a nice weekend and a good Father's Day. The Senate will convene at 2PM today. They are scheduled for several hours of debate on the Energy bill, then at 6PM, Frist will call for a cloture vote on the nomination of John Bolton for US Ambassador to the UN. Follow along, and comment, as usual..
Pay special attention. Now that Biden has announced he's gonna run, will his aides drop balloons from the Senate ceiling when he speaks?
Re Bolton: talks supposedly are continuing between Frist, the WH, and the Dems..Reid, Dodd, and Biden..to see if a compromise can be worked out. If so, the vote may be postponed.
If the vote is to occur, look for Senator Voinovich to pop a few extra "Restasis" pills today..
Possible topics to discuss here during the interminable Quorum Calls:
1. Anyone get a really weird gift for Father's Day? Do please share..
2. Comments on McCain's appearance on MTP Sunday? He just about guaranteed that Durbin would make an apology..
I understand as of right now the cloture votes are not there.
Thats what I heard on the Radio, not enough votes and Bush will make use of the recess appointment option in a week and a half.
I was just getting ready to report you as missing in action. :-)
Hello to you too! Hope you had a great Father's day too! As for my household, had the whole clan over, we enjoyed that day more so after the SPURS won game five!! WHAT A GAME! WHEW, what a nail biter!! GO SPURS GO!! :)
Thanks for the live thread, ken. Even when I don't post, I follow these to see what's going on.
Where, in heaven or hell, did Joe Biden ever get the idea that America would make him president of anything?
Thanks as always for starting this thread. There are many, many lurkers here. I am always lurking and very seldom post, but I do appreciate these threads.
I was beginning to think the Breaking News sidebar was broken....
It came with the implants?
Any chance we will get to see some more pounding on Durbin's Gitmo comments?
There aren't enough total Rep. votes to do it. We need some RATs to vote with us, but, unlike the Republicans, they're too disciplined to break ranks on this.

Now, that's sad! Tell me again, what is a majority party?? :(
Durbin's opened up a huge can of worms for his party. And most of them are walking right into a "soft on terrorism" trap of their own making. I may be wrong, but I don't think the majority of Americans are in the mood to coddle terrorists, and they're going to wonder why the Dem party is so eager to line up with the ACLU and CAIR over Gitmo.
Re: McCain's MTP lovefest.
He's emotional about "climate change"? Talk about an unstable individual.

What game? Are the NBA Playoffs still going on? What year will they end? I was looking forward to the world series.
Some wit was correct; "If the NBA had been in charge of WW2, Germany would still be in the contest".
LOL :)
Though they may be disciplined in never voting for what's good for the country, and always voting for what's good for their party (i.e BAD for the country), I'd describe them more as bullheaded, stubborn, antagonistic or anti-American before I'd use a word as nice as "disciplined."
