Ya;ll know where I live and I cannot take my Pug around the block on the canyon side because I have aslready seen 2 rattlers. This will be one heck of a rattler season. Be careful.

I've read that about 90% of people bit by snakes in the U.S. are handling them ir teasing them. Your chances of being bitten are remote.

Maybe we can get some LIBERALS to 'adopt a rattler for PETA" drive going. That might thin their numbers(rattlers AND Liberals)a little out there...lol

FOTFLOL! Now that's one heck of an idea because almost every pest and bug is a protected species in CA.

I do NOT get close enough to them to use that. I take a panoramic view of the whole area about 25 feet in advance. The two I saw were sunning themselves on an infrequently traveled road that rims the canyon below. AND both snakes were HUGE. At least 5-6 feet long.

Rapid rise in rattlesnakes debated It's not that there are more snakes - the democrats just registered more of them to vote.

We hunt in south Texas where there are LOTS of rattlesnakes. Their natural camo is amazing. You can walk right up on one without seeing it. I know, I have done it. I startled a snake that was traveling on a trail and he stood up and danced on his tail while hissing at me. That is a maneuver that I had only seen depicted in western paintings but I saw it happen for real. It about scared me to death but the snake didn't live to talk about it. heh

Liked that, didja?
Wait 'til you get moved to Mississippi - then you can also look out for copperheads, and cottonmouths if you are near water. And if you are far enough south, even the occasional coral snake.

Take one average sized rattler, behead.
Start at the anus, slit the scales up to where head was. Using a pair of catfish skinners peel skin from the tail to the head area, discarding viscera. (You can rub the skin with a large quantity of rock salt and preserve it if you wish.)
Cut the snake into 2-3 inch chunks, dust in cornmeal. Deep fry until golden brown.
Enjoy with beverage of choice. Long necks are a preference.

Thank you, but I have a lovely yard in MS and NO snakes in the area. I;m in the hisotric area, and trust me, I asked about snakes BEFORE that house was purchased.

That's a famous (or is it an INFAMOUS?) round up. I'd never be able to participate. Scared to death of snakes, even the nice ones.

Could all this ground shaking be shaking them to the surface, shaking them to the top, and out of their holes in the ground - I wonder?
