These are just some of many posters and other propaganda that our government issued during World War II to focus American attention on victory. Granted, with 16 million young men at war, the necessary mobilization dwarfed anything that this war may require. But the American people never lost sight of the quest for victory nor a healthy fear of the enemy.
One can see palpable in the American public. All too many of us have forgotten. And when we forget our peril, we cease to fight for our freedom. That forgetfulness ironically stems from our own military success and ability heretofore to prevent terrorist attacks at a relatively small price. But we cannot win if we forget that for which we fight. Our troops have not forgotten and will not forget, but will we forget our murdered countrymen [and women] or will we remember their horrible death and vow to protect this country with the blessings of Almighty God?
We must make this decision, and we will make it this year and next. We cannot afford to fail.

Thank you... I've been reading about WW2 all day, and this reminded me to make the connection to now.
There are actually things we all can do to help.

I agree that one thing the government should be doing is to raise the public awareness that we are at war. The idea that it might upset people is so much doggerel. Posters in public buildings and schools should be as much a part of the civic landscape as all of the touchy-feely 'Celebrate XYZ' crap plastered all over. The notion that we should just go on in an insular middle class world eating cheeseburgers and buying plasma screen TV's without a thought to the reality of our nation's peril is insane. Buy the damn burgers and TV's, but fer cryin' out loud we ought to be seeing some effort to unify the nation behind our military action and the necessary goals we MUST achieve in order to secure stable peace for our next generation's future.
