Profound disabilities? Like no cerebral cortex? To me, that's way beyond dis-ability -- that's no-ability.

People with disabilities are made in the image of God like every other human being. I certainly would not someone else to decide whether I ought to live or die. My life is as sacrosanct as the next person and this disabled person does value his own life. So don't claim to speak for me on what my life is worth.

"No tubes for me" is a far cry from "no food and water for me". Can you imagine someone saying, "If I'm ever in that situation, I want to be starved and dehydrated. I want to die a wretched and painful death. I want to lose a third of my body weight. I want my lips to crack, my tongue to swell, my eyes to sink into my head." Yeah . . . I'm sure that's what she was thinking when she told the Schiavos "no tubes for me".

Suicide, assisted suicide, and murder are not legitimate options for the profoundly disabled. Not legally, not ethically, not morally - not in any civilized society. This ain't Project Mayhem, Big Bob.
