NEW YORK A study of smells shows that the scent of grapefruit on women make them seem younger to men -- about six years younger.
However, a grapefruit fragrance on men does nothing for them.
The study by the Smell and Taste Institute in Chicago was conducted to determine what makes a women smell young -- but not too young, like pink bubble gum.
Institute director Alan Hirsch said he smeared several middle-aged woman subjects with broccoli, banana, spearmint leaves, and lavender but none of those scents made a difference to the male species.
But the scent of grapefruit changed man's perception. Hirsch said that when male volunteers were asked to write down how old the woman with grapefruit odor was, the age was considerably less than reality.

Important work here.
"Dr. Hirschs team asked a 59, 245 lb. woman to serve as a model for their weight assessment study. She was not told about the studys hypothesis, and in order to further control variables, she was instructed not to speak and to move minimally during the test."
snip
"Each day, one of these odors was sprayed on the model, using enough sprays to make it detectable to those with normal smell perception. Then one of the male subgroups and all of the members of Group 4 (control group) was asked to look at the woman and make an estimation of her weight."
snip Results
"Among the men tested, neither odor 1 (citrus floral) nor odor 2 (sweet pea & lily of the valley) seemed to affect the perception of weight. However, odor 3 (floral and spice) significantly reduced the perception of the womans weight by an average of 4.1 pounds. More remarkably, those men who found the floral and spice odor to be pleasant perceived the woman to be a full 12 pounds less than her actual weight.
WOW with the right aroma this 245 lb. "babe" can pass for 240.9 lbs. Has to do wonders for her self esteem.

I don't know about the study but...I DO use Grapefruit scented hand soap and hand lotion and it IS wonderful. Everyone comments on it ... women and men. Try it.
