PARK CITY, Utah — Search and rescue crews are looking for an 11-year-old boy who hasn't been seen since last night at a Summit County (search) scout camp.

Few details are available. The Summit County Sheriff's office says the search is still going on this morning.

The boy was last seen yesterday at the camp near the east fork of the Bear Lake River (search).

The sprawling, eastern Utah county includes the rugged Uinta Mountains, where 12-year-old Boy Scout Garrett Bardsley (search) was lost last summer.

This is becoming too common!

Saturday's search brought back difficult memories for many who searched for 12-year-old Boy Scout Garrett Bardsley, who disappeared last August in the Uintas and is believed dead.

The current search has hit Garrett's parents particularly hard. They said they are offering what help they can.

"My husband has been up there," said Heidi Bardsley Saturday afternoon. She said she was heading up to the search site to offer what help and support she could as well. Heidi Bardsley said given the circumstances, she was reluctant to talk about the situation.

In fall 2003, crews also searched for a mother and daughter from out of state who went missing while hiking in the Crystal Lake area. Their remains were discovered last summer near a crudely built shelter. The pair likely died from hypothermia, sheriff officials said.

Having a third disappearance so relatively soon will prove challenging, both physically and emotionally for officials as well. "We're no strangers to this, unfortunately," Edmunds said. "We'd like to find him within a few minutes, but we also know that it could take days, it could take weeks." The area where Brennan was last seen is a place commonly frequented by scouts, Edmunds said

Could there be a serial abductor in the mountains of Utah?

I initially had my suspicions. But I've since done some research and discovered that apparently this scout came up missing only 15 miles from where last year's scout came up missing. Now I'm beginning to wonder. My own 12 year old son left this morning for scout camp near Bear Lake, Utah. Although that's nowhere near the other two camps, if there's a serial abductor on the loose, parents such as myself have reason to be concerned.

I taught my own son that is he ever got separated from the group and didn't know where he was, that he was to stay put and not try to walk out. That's good advice for a lost scout, but is completely inapplicable to an abducted scout.

Praying that they find this boy.

Do you know if there's an Amber Alert?

It's strange that there's no name or description of the boy.

I am retired military. My older sons have been in LDS and non LDS troops. I've also assisted in both as a leader.

In my experience LDS scout troops are no worse prepared than non LDS scout troops. Some troops are mediocre. Some are absolutely fantastic. Most are in the comfortable middle.

The sprawling, eastern Utah county includes the rugged Uinta Mountains, where 12-year-old Boy Scout Garrett Bardsley (search) was lost last year." Without more information, this is like saying two boys disappeared in Connecticut.

Exactly right. I've backpacked the Uintas many times, alone and with my small children. It's a vast area with all sorts of hazards. Until I hear differently I'm betting they find the poor kid drowned in the river.

"I did a quick search and it appears that they never found the first boy."

I thought a few weeks back; some remains were found and they thought it was the boy who disappeared as he went back to his car for snacks while his Father fished. . .dn'dt know if this is the same child. . .

Whatever the scenario; I hope this child is found soon. . .so sad.

Wondering if they have dogs looking as well. . .and if they had even tried a psychic. . .I would be calling any and all sources for help.

They used a plane, last week, in Aruba that had 'heat seeking' equipment looking for missing teen. . .

I just saw his family on Hannity.

There are so many good people in Utah, it looks like a lot of searchers helping to look for him.

I pray they find him and he is ok.

Most of the Boy Scout leaders are called by the Mormon Church to that postion. The Boy Scout program is part of the Mormon Chruch youth programs. Guess, kids complained but nothing was done.

Your guess is most likely wrong.

And, by the way, because of some unfortunate incidents the BSA and the LDS Church have developed strict guidelines for scout activities and background checks on scout leaders.

We had a case where I live. A scout master had been molesting boys for years. Not a peep from the boys. Until one day a boy was almost molested and he did the right thing and told someone. In a blink all the boys were identified and in counseling, the scoutmaster was turned over to law enforcement and he will probably die of old age in jail his sentence was so lengthy. We get new people in the scout program here who don't understand the strict rules and want them relaxed. I just have to take them aside and tell them about this guy and what happened and they get with the program really quick.

Jeesh, where did you get that information??? I was an assistant camp director for the young women's program in the LDS church. Even though I had no formal camp training before being called, I had spent 8 years attending the same camp myself. Once I had the position I spent two nights a month in meetings with other leaders, learning about camping, fires, the area, the animals, the terrain, and the rules about the outdoors. We all were required to be certified in CPR and First Aid. There were very specific rules in place for the girls and for the leaders. Once a month during the year we would hold camp clinics for the young women (12-18 years of age.)

As far as the scoutmasters went, all of them were gungho lifelong scouters. They loved working with the young men and took every precaution they could. They took their responsibilities seriously, and learned all they could about the outdoors, and camping. In Utah, it is a big thing to do the 50 mile hike in the Unitas. The boys spend years preparing for this hike. They are given very specific instructions and rules.

You shouldn't take isolated incidents and use them to smear the LDS church's Boy Scout program.
