Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) says he was misunderstood, when he made his scurrilous comments on the Senate floor, last week. Saying that he would not apologize for his comments on Thursday, he issued this on Friday:
My statement in the Senate was critical of the policies of this administration, which add to the risk our soldiers face. I have learned from my statement that historical parallels can be misused and misunderstood. I sincerely regret if what I said caused anyone to misunderstand my true feelings. Our soldiers around the world and their families at home deserve our respect, admiration and total support.
Well, it certainly appears to me, and to the apparent thousands who tried to contact his office, that he made his true feelings known when he said on Tuesday (regarding a memo prepared by an FBI agent on the supposed torturous treatment of one Guantanamo prisoner):
If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime, Pol Pot or others, that had no concern for human beings. Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners.
There was no misunderstanding, Senator. You said what you said. Your statements both vilified and scorned our US Military; our kids keeping you safe so that you can spew your venomous comments.
No longer are inflammatory and unconscionable comments reserved for the ultra-left wing of the Democrat Party. Its leaders have now joined the fray and are attempting to unravel the fabric of our military (much the same as the left affected during the Viet Nam conflict) toward, ultimately, unraveling the country.
Who will defend your right to spew this unscrupulous diatribe if there is no longer a viable military? Do you even have an inkling as to how dangerous are the Guantanamo Bay enemy combatants?
Senator Durbin, your statements and those of many of your Democrat colleagues reflect both your anger at losing power and a developing madness within your Party. With your degrading statements, aimed at those attempting to protect us and our country, you have provided aid and comfort to our enemies. And your weak and pretended almost apology doesnt absolve you of your initial statements.
As I wrote in a previous column Liberals: We Can Do Anything As Long As We Say Were Sorry, this is simply not acceptable. Its time for you to leave the Senate, Sir. You have become a fomenter of anti-American rhetoric and propaganda and are no longer a credible or viable leader.
Rightttttt! My tochus was misunderstood. You were heard loud and clearm, Senator. You told the world exactly what you, and your party, think of this country and what you and your party think of our troops. Ted Kennedy did this once before and he got a pass.
It is my fervent hope, that you are not allowed to weasel out of this one.
ROFLMAO....terrific analogy...
There is nothing to misunderstand.
Even a Jr. High School Debate Team can grasp the concept of "Guilt by Association".
This snake should resign simply because of inferior IQ!
"But inside this complex, they found something even more sinister -- four Iraqis who were handcuffed, their hands and feet bound with steel cuffs. They're now being taken away for medical treatment, one being borne away on a stretcher."
And the AC was turned off......
He's just a soul whose intentions are good. Oh Lord, please don't let him be misunderstood...
Resign now, Sen. Turban!
I WAS MISUNDERSTOOD
I always use this excuse when I say what I mean.
MAO murdered millions, some say more than Stalin. But his name is not used. I remember Connie Chung a few years ago naming the names--but no MAO.
Possible answer: CORPORATE AMERICA does not want to "insult" the lucrative Communist China market. Viacom-CBS, GE-NBC, DISNEY-ABC, NEWSCORP-FOX, et al. Hells bells Microsoft, Yahoo, & Google are filtering words like DEMOCRACY, FREEDOM, VOTING, etc to please their RED PARTNERS.
Sounds like that city boy is in the process of discovering that those meadow muffins don't make good stepping stones :)
Truly a man of the people. It is clear to me from this that Senator Durbin will not only understand, but be fully sympathetic toward my calls for him to be tarred and feathered.
===========================
Dear Senator Durbin:
Please review the following photographs. You have placed the American soldier on equal footing with the monsters who did these things, so please do not gloss over or ignore them:
Now Senator Durbin, do you really believe that anything done by our servicemen at Guantanamo, or Abu Ghraib is remotely tantamount to the atrocities perpetrated by the Nazis? If you don't believe this to be true, why would you deliberately lie about such things? Are your lies the result of ignorance, or something more insidious?
To me, the act of comparing American Soldiers to nazis is incomprehensible, and although I know far better than to expect the truth from you regarding your reasoning, I would suggest that there is no reason you could provide that does not call into serious question your fitness for continued service as a member of the US Senate. Only your full and unqualified retraction of your remarks can preserve any dignity you may have ever had.
You are a coward and precisely the lowly type of person that John Stuart Mill had in mind when he wrote:
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
Sincerely,
Just Another American (you will no doubt ignore)
Thanks, it just seemed so appropriate!
I traveled over 3,000 miles last week and heard "everybody" after a while it was all a blur... probably was Rush.
Well .. the cat is already out of the bag .. so it's time for Durbin TO RESIGN.
I agree with everything this author says except his referring to our military members as "kids." I know he does not mean any disrespect and doesn't mean children but rather young men and women, but it does sound a little condesending to me. They are adult men and women doing a job that many older and more experienced citizens would crack under the pressure, strain, separation from family, training, discipline, living conditions, etc.
