This case smells a little funny to me. The school band represents the school. I plan on homeschooling my children and I'm doing so because I don't want them in public school. Why would I want them in the band? Just mho.

It could be that the child wants an opportunity that is not available other than in the school, or that she has some friends in the band and wants to join in.

It could be that the parents are pushing for it.

Most of the time, if I can not find what I want out there, I just start it- and there are homeschool bands.
