Troops find car-bomb factory in assault 200 miles west of Baghdad (100 foreign fighters captured)

American forces attacked a dusty border town from the air and with tank fire yesterday, capturing 100 militants in the third major recent effort to uproot insurgents who are believed to use the region to sneak foreign suicide bombers in from Syria.

"Coalition aircraft using precision-guided munitions destroyed these targets. Only buildings occupied by insurgents firing on Marines and Iraqi soldiers were bombed. Three buildings were confirmed destroyed," Pool said. No American or Iraqi military casualties were reported.

Marines carried out two major operations in the Karabilah area last month, killing 125 insurgents in the first campaign, Operation Matador, and 14 in the second, Operation New Market. Eleven Marines were killed in those two actions to scatter and eradicate insurgents using the road from Damascus to Baghdad.

The new campaign began just before dawn in the desert around Karabilah and nearby Qaim, a lawless town about 200 miles west of Baghdad that is at the crossroads of an insurgent smuggling route leading into Iraq from neighboring Syria.

During the assault, troops captured about 100 foreign fighters and discovered at least one car-bomb factory, said Col. Bob Chase, the chief of operations for the Second Marine Division. He said that U.S. and Iraqi forces encountered some resistance, but he did not characterize it as significant.

Iraqi soldiers did not participate in the earlier anti-insurgent offensives, but Chase said that this time they not only fought alongside Americans, but used their language skills and knowledge of the area to spot foreign fighters.

NICE E-Mail from my Sister son-- a good info about M-1114 humvees---a normal mission and new acronyms

Hey everyone, just thought I would write and tell everyone
that I am allright, it is getting hot over(heat and insurgency) with the heat index it was up to 119 degrees, then with the 40lb IBA vest on, when you take it off , you are covered in sweat. We have been having a couple of long days. Had a VCIED(Vehicle Concealed Improvised Explosive Device)go off the other day in Echo Troops area. A VCIED is a car bomb without an occupant in the vehicle, unlike the VBIED, they come up with new acronyms everyday. Anyway we was out patrolling and we heard it go off and we went to see if anyone needed help, the VCIED went off 10ft from a humvee, I feel better with these M-1114 humvees now. No one got seriously injured in the vehicle, except for their eardrums, but the vehicles armor protected them. The injuries came from the vehicle that was 20ft away, a soldier got schrapnel in his arm. We MEDEVACed him to the hospital in the green zone.

That is so nice to hear 100 less and one car-bomb factory less.

It seems that the terrorists are now staying together in larger groups to protect themselves and to hold enough power over an area.

They can't operate in groups of two or three anymore because Iraqi locals will take them out. The terrorists only hope is to have enough AK-47-touting comrades around to maintain the bully/gang posture.

This is how Fallujah, Ramadi, al Qaim and some Baghdad neighborhoods became safe havens.

This leaves the Marines with identifiable large number targets to go after which is what we are seeing now, larger operations and larger captures.

The "Iraq-is-a-Failure-We're-in-a-Quagmire" crowd will be deeply saddened to hear this.

This is BIG!!

The Quagmire/isolationist guys will ignore it. Doesn't fit the 'disaster' template.....

I'm tempted to ping a couple of them and see how they contort and distort to say it doesn't mean anything.

Do it! Do it! (she said, with little horns springing up on her head...)

Ping 'em to all the other articles about the terrorist butt-kicking that has gone on in Iraq today as well...;-)

Yes, shortly after you ask them privately and individually whether they would like to save themselves from their otherwise certain death by spilling the beans regarding everything they know of Al-Qaeda, the Baathist insurgency, and anti-US or anti-new-Iraqi government activities.

For the willing talkers, depose them, check the stories, debrief them again as necessary.

March each of them out among a bunch of their own freshly dead comrades. Follow them at a distance of fifteen paces with a side-armed US soldier. Leave an apparently loaded (but not) AK-47 plainly visible, and for those who pick it up and pull the trigger, aiming to shot the soldier, waste 'em.

For the non-trigger pullers, and those not leaders or instigators, who should probably be sent to Gitmo, deliver them in person to their respective ambassadors to the US, saying, that if any of these are again found fighting against the US, we'll consider it an act of war by their country, and should that happen, their mother country may face swift reprisal from the US.

Thanks for the good news ping.

The Iraqis should test those rigged cars with some of the captured insurgent leaders strapped in them via remote control in safe desert.

The Iraqis could Super Glue as many low level captured insurgents to the inside and outside of the "test" vehicles.

After each successful "test" send in a herd of wild boars to clean up the mess.

Video tape the results and run them several times each day.

Thank ye muchly. Although I lifted the two graphics from somewhere else and put them together. And I lifted the quote from Pope John Paul, II. So I guess I can't claim credit for anything! LOL

They've been kicking butt all over the country today. Baghdad's been noisy as all get-out with helicopters of varying sorts flying all over town. But they nailed a BUNCH of scum.

I've alerted the cooking staff at Camp Victory to be on the lookout for Faith...heh, heh... ;-)
