Driver, 76, Slams SUV Into Hair Salon

A 76-year-old driver running late for a hair appointment Friday mistakenly hit her sport utility vehicle's accelerator and slammed into a salon in Altamonte Springs, Fla., according to Local 6 News.
Police said 76-year-old Gene Maxel was trying to park her SUV when she accidentally accelerated backwards and then sideways into the business, Local 6 News reported.
"I was doing a highlight and I looked up and saw her backing up and started yelling 'Oh my God,'" hair stylist Carla Philman said.
When the SUV jumped the curb, a woman inside the building jumped from a couch as the vehicle slammed through a wall, Local 6 News reported.
"She said that it got stuck in reverse," Philman said. "And we just thank God that the wheel was turned to the right or she would have come right through and killed us all."
The woman was transported to Florida Hospital but is expected to recover from her injuries. There were no other reported injuries.
The estimated cost of damage to the business is about $15,000, Local 6 News reported.

Lady-bangs-into-hair-salon-Ping.There's a streak of liberalism in the way the hairline, er, headline is written so as to highlight the SUV's involvement. Luckily, there was no permanent damage done and nobody dyed. The problem is that the media is conditioning us to shed SUVs with headlines like this.

An 81 year old man backed over his wife yesterday at a fruit stand in New Port Richey, FL. She is in critical condition. The same circumstance as all the other old person accidents -- hit the gas instead of the brakes.
