China test-fires new submarine-launched missile

TOKYO - (KRT) - China test-fired a new long-range, submarine-launched ballistic missile Thursday, Japanese government sources said Friday.

The new missile is believed to be the Ju Lang-2, a modified version of the intercontinental ballistic missile Dong Feng-31 that has a range of about 8,000 kilometers.

The new SLBM was believed to be fired from a nuclear submarine in waters off Qingdao and touched down in a desert in China several thousand kilometers away.

It has been confirmed that China test-fired an SLBM in 2001.

China is believed to possess about 30 ICBMs and has been conducting research on multiple-warhead missiles to counter the U.S. missile defense system.

China also has been more active recently in its naval operations. In November, a Han-class nuclear submarine cruised around Guam and entered Japan's territorial waters. If China develops SLBMs further, the entire mainland of the United States would come within range of the missiles.

Observers said the latest test-firing apparently was aimed at warning Washington not to interfere in the event of military conflict between China and Taiwan in the Taiwan Strait.

The United States believes China is ready to deploy the Dong Feng-31 and has estimated that Beijing will have 100 warheads targeting the United States by 2015.

U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld expressed strong concern over China's development of ICBMs in a speech in Singapore on June 4, saying China appeared to be improving its missiles targeting the Asia-Pacific region and also was expanding its missile capability to reach any target in the world

Clinton could not have done it alone, because the chinse would not have the money to buy it. It was the free traders, and the Walmart shoppers who make this possible. Give credit where it is due. If you want to thank someone for American cities and Hoover dam being destroyed in another decade or two, it will be because of those who believe in free trade with communist china.

Not exactly an unbiased article.
"China also has been more active recently in its naval operations. In November, a Han-class nuclear submarine cruised around Guam and entered Japan's territorial waters"
Little detail missing is that the sub was detected and tracked from the moment it left it's pier. Just a guess (and the subguys will never confirm this) we had an LA class sub a few hundred yards behind this Han class studying it and testing it in subtle ways.
If it were a wartime situation it would have had a Mk 50 torpedo dropped on it's head anytime we wanted to.

Gee, by then they might understand MAD. We already probably can hit them with 1000+ of ours, and they have no ABM system.
It would be a huge surprise if the ruling party was in business in 10 years. The country is falling apart underneath them. In 5 more years they will have to import water just to survive.

The Clintons provided top secret information to the chicoms and in return, the chicoms donated large amounts of money to his reelection! How the chicoms obtained the ability to purchase and pull off this espionage
really is NOT the issue. The Clintons treason against this Country IS.
Making any excuse for the Clintons, won't change the fact that the Clinton's sold America out, to get elected!
Freetrade did not commit the treason, the Clintons did. Under your proposition, every Nation that we are doing business with should be buying up our Top Secret nuke projects, after all "freetrade is what caused the Clintons to sell out America!"
Now, just for a minute, think of the outrage, and the calls for charges of treason, and impeachment if it were a "republican" who had committed this treason. Better yet, how would you be answering this blog right now, if it were President Bush, and a chicom agent Charlie Tree who sold out America, instead of the Clintons?

That's right!
You would not understand why Bush had not been impeached, tortured, and then shot, and not necessarily in that order! After all you just HATE Bush anyway!
