U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison announced Friday that she will run for another Senate term, ending months of speculation that she would challenge Texas Gov. Rick Perry for the Republican nomination in 2006

Why the new thread on the same subject?
didn't know I could cross post.
I was gonna ask to remove the other one.
Texans? Whats the deal?
I think this is a good thing. Didn't want to see Hutchinson and Perry attacking each other and weakening both.
I don't know Texas politics that well, so I'd love to hear some opinion from the Lonestar State.
I would suggest that you put Texas in the Topics. I added it, and I'm going to add Perry and Hutchenson to the keywords.
The mod caught that.
Ah, good new for this Texan! I didn't want a fight going on here between Hutchison and Perry! We don't need that with everything else going on in our world!
I'm not a KBH fan, but she is a sure bet to win re-election to the Senate. This probably means that Carol Keeton Rylander McClellan Strayhorn is going to run for governor, and the 3 way race would have been a high risk move for KBH. Perry should be able to handle a two way battle with Strayhorn. Of course, Strayhorn may go for Lt Gov, in which case everyone will win, if not what they would most like to have.
Okay, thanx.
I hated seeing this brewing. I've found KBH unremarkable to date, but she is an (R), and for the most part she seems to be a fairly reliable vote for the good guys.
My first instinct was to hope she stays in the Senate, and let Perry go for another term as Governor. We are going to have serious battles against the left, I'd rather not see us eat our own.
Again though, I don't know Texas politics - so my analysis could be worthless.

I just heard the news on the radio, here in Fort Worth, a while ago---
I am so relieved, I thought Kay Bailey was going to leave the Senate seat open for a possible dem...Oh, just too awful to contemplate!!!!
So now Perry can concentrate on tearing Carole Keeton McClellen Rylander Strayhorn a new one.
For someone that doesn't know Texas politics, I think you have thought it out the right way...IMHO
I know that the idiot Chris Bell was thinking about running for KBH's seat...he is the one that filed a handful of ethics complaints against Tom Delay, after he lost his House seat because of redistricting last year...real sore loser, and I would have hated the thought of him even remotely having a chance at the Senate...
As far as KBH is concerned, I of course pay attention to her votes, and I have been disappointed, but only on a handful of bills, amendments that she sides with the other women Senators on...BUT, she is on the Armed Forces Committee and is really pro-Iraq War,
She also doesn't hesitate to get up on the Senate floor and speak her mind, either...
He should have no trouble whipping Carole Keeton McClellen Rylander Strayhorn Chafee Hagel DeWine McCain....
Thanks, I am going at this from the "lets focus on battling the left rather than fighting amongst ourselves" angle. I really don't know Texas politics at all - other than the fact that you guys have managed to turn a (D) state into solid GOP territory. With that in mind, I will leave it to you Texans to take care of business and take notes from the sidelines.
Appreciate your input. Glad to know I'm on the right track.

I heard something really good about Governor Perry tonight, that he is tired of the illegal immigrant problem, and lack of help, so he is sending down some Texas Guard troops to the border to help the border patrol...
Oh really (pro-Iraq war)? Where has she been for God's sake? We hadn't heard from or about her in a coon's age, especially now with Durbin and the wrecking crew going insane. I just wrote her a letter asking why the silence? Why?? Come on Hutchison, speak your mind!! How about giving our sons and daughters some support!!
What has she spoken her mind on? If you have some good references, send them our way we need a morale booster.
I saw her on the floor talking about the judicial nominees, especially Janice Rogers Brown and Priscilla Owens, which is pretty much All that has been done lately..
And I read that she and Cornyn were going around Texas and Washington fighting for the military bases---and to keep as many as possible off the BRAC list...
I have also heard her speak on the Supplemental Bill for the Iraq War...
Do you get to watch the Senate very often? Because if you don't, you probably won't know that much...but I have read a few things about her here at FR...
I also think she has been spending time in Texas, trying to figure out what she wanted to do re: running for Governor..
With the gang war in Nuevo Laredo spilling across the river, it's not a moment too soon.
