The Free Republic Book Club is an informal gathering of readers and lovers of all genre of books, which meets on an irregular basis (whenever I remember to post and have a copy of the ping list available.)
If you would like to be on this ping list, please send me mail and I'll include you. If you wish to be removed, please send mail. If you already sent me mail wishing to be removed and you were pinged anyway, oops, my apologies, please request again (sorry about that).
Today's topic: what's on your summer reading list? Whether you are going on vacation, sitting on the beach or just hanging out on your front porch, there's usually a good novel nearby. Any particular plans or will it be a more serendipitous approach?
That must have been a different Barna book because Revolution doesn't come out until October. But, either way, he does some interesting stuff.
Have you read any of Kathy Reichs? She has a new one out in HB - just finished the earlier one in PB.
Jeffrey Deaver has a new Lincoln Rhyme novel out. One of my favorite series.
Moi, je parle francais en courant. Mais je peux parler seulement un petit d'espagnol.
You will love the Plum Series...there are 11 books so far and they are hysterically funny and fun.
To each his own, keeps life interesting.
Are you a Ranger Babe or a Morelli Cupcake?
Brightness Reef by David Brin
You'll enjoy it. It's great for summertime.
Let me suggest another, though, that I just got: "The Confederate States of America: What Might Have Been," by Roger Ransom. I know RR from my days at UCSB, when he would do seminars (he was at UC Riverside). He was the doctoral advisor to one of my co-authors on a previous book, and I look forward to reading this one.
Actually there was a big ta-da after his wife passed; many think she was actually the author of the Dick Francis books.
Anything written by James Lee Burke.
what kind of proof did they have to think that? Or do they just assume because he hasn't written anything since?
I think it is quite normal that he would stop writing.
Ruth Rendell and Minette Waters are younger English mystery writers; they write very dark stuff too.
I love the Elizabeth George books featuring Tommy Lynley and Company, though am not sure what I think about the last one in which tragedy struck one of the main characters...
I will look for a link. The article actually came out immediately after her death, kinda like it was well known in literary circles etc.
Thanks. I know a Civil War buff that would appreciate that book. :~ )
Hmm. well he does have piles of awards and such; three Edgar Allen Poe Awards, the title of Mystery Writers of America's Grand Master, fellowship in the Royal Society of Literature, and Malice Domestic's Lifetime Achievement Award- hard to argue against that
"I read The Devil in the White City, too...."
I have that book and MUST read it -- I bought it long ago when we Freepers were ordering books from Amazon to knock someone off Amazon's #1 spot (can't remember who -- maybe Hilly or Billy) by ordering titles in Amazon's #2-5 positions.
