Tear Book (kid, parents freak over bad yearbook photo)

June 17, 2005 -- A Queens couple claims their daughter's memories of elementary school have been marred by a "horrible" yearbook pho- to, and are demanding the school recall all 200 books and replace the picture. Michelle Maihepat, of South Ozone Park, said her 11-year-old daughter, Asheana, is so embarrassed by the "bad picture" that she has been crying and hiding her face in shame from her sixth-grade classmates at PS 121 since the yearbooks were distributed Monday. "For the rest of her life, she's going to have to be ashamed of that horrible picture," Maihepat said. "Twenty years down the line, she's going to look at this book with her friends, and her friends are going to say, 'What happened to you there?' "

I need to talk to my mother and find an attorney!

LMAO! I graduated junior high 16 years ago, do you think it's too late to ask for a recall and demand a new picture be taken?

Isn't that the truth! I look at my HS yearbook and laugh at how horrendous I looked!. I had an afro (this was 1978), and horrible overplucked eyebrows. What a freak I was!

I had my son look at it once(he had not seen it before), and asked him to point out the ugliest kid on the page...he looked and looked and then stopped when he got to mine, and laughed.

Then he handed the book back to me, having found the ugliest!

But I turned out okay...no scars.

At least tomorrow it will be something important, like Tom Cruise sucking that cute little girl into his bizarro cult.

Well, I suppose you're entitled to your opinion.

I am still laughing at your post -- five minutes after reading it. Brilliant. A Hall of Fame snappy comeback.

What's wrong with her picture?

If it's captioned "Southern end of a northbound horse" - then nothing.

I don't care if they buy up all the film at MallWart - they're not going to get a good picture of that kid.

Is that herpes, she has above her lip? Maybe L. Ron Hubbard's books have something to help with that.

Ha. . .I agree with you. . .but in my case I graduated university in 1977 and should have had better judgment. . .at least you have an excuse. . .I was "educated" and should have known better.

At my highschool, all the kids with horrible acne got their faces photoshopped into perfect skin. You couldn't recognize a single one of them.

They airbrushed my horrendous acne out of my HS yearbook picture in the late 60s.

I was grateful that they did. It was an act of kindness that I always appreciated. I had the second worse case in the school (it didn't clear up until my sophomore year in college), and it was a major source of embarrassment for me in my adolescence.

Of course, I wouldn't have thought to sue if they hadn't airbrushed me.

Did your eyebrows grow back? My aunt's eyebrows were over plucked in the late 70's when that was popular, and they never grew back.

I love looking through my mother's yearbooks. She graduated from high school in '65. I love looking at the clothes and the hairstyles.

I hated my teeth in H.S., but my parents couldn't afford braces. I don't like to look at the pictures now any more than I did then...but my life went on. My real friends didn't care a bit about crooked teeth, and are still my friends today. Maybe I should have all the yearbooks (from 15 years ago) recalled so I wont be scarred for life.

There will most certainly be another less than ideal photo taken of this girl at a later date...what will her parents do then? It's hard to see your kids go through embarassing things, but you have to teach them to handle difficult situations with grace and humor.

Solution: Yearbooks with no pictures.

It's never too late, evidently.

I mean, aren't we ALL traumatized by them?

Is that herpes, she has above her lip?

That's how Scientologists breed - it's about to erupt into a new cultist.
