Tear Book (kid, parents freak over bad yearbook photo)
NY Post ^ | 6/17/05 | David Andreatta

June 17, 2005 -- A Queens couple claims their daughter's memories of elementary school have been marred by a "horrible" yearbook pho- to, and are demanding the school recall all 200 books and replace the picture. Michelle Maihepat, of South Ozone Park, said her 11-year-old daughter, Asheana, is so embarrassed by the "bad picture" that she has been crying and hiding her face in shame from her sixth-grade classmates at PS 121 since the yearbooks were distributed Monday. "For the rest of her life, she's going to have to be ashamed of that horrible picture," Maihepat said. "Twenty years down the line, she's going to look at this book with her friends, and her friends are going to say, 'What happened to you there?' "

I scrubbed my skin until it was scaly and dry on top, and still had lesions coming up under the scales. I used soap; I used Noxzema; I used astringent pads; I used Clearasil. It wasn't until I got to college that I found out that there were pills you could take to stop acne. Stop it dead in its tracks. And many of the girls (the ones with the smooth, flawless skin) in my high school took those pills. Daily.

And at one time doctors were prescribing Tetracycline pills for acne. Now everyone of those who took that has permanent yellow-stained teeth instead of temporary acne.

I cut out meat, dairy and started taking lots of olive leaf pills. Whatever was in my blood is outta there now. My face cleared up pretty well. Having said that, I have no patience of people who tease or bully little kids. kids can be incredibly cruel. I know that personally.

Maybe they just wanted publicity.

"her 11-year-old daughter, Asheana"

Maybe her real name is Ana, a-she-ana?

You don't have to be mean. Do you like picking on twelve year old girls?

I've been using that for 7 years now. Sure beats the Dermatologist bills...and it works.

one of the funniest photo incidents i can recall happened to my mom in about 1977.

we use to have to wait 2-3 weeks to get our drivers license in the mail after the "photo was taken.

well when she got hers it was of a middle age black man with a big afro. all the other data was correct.
name , address , height , etc.

man did we have fun with that through many family BQ's.
we always wondered if the gentleman got my moms picture on his license.

Her parents mated.

Not her fault.

This girl is going to have a tough time at the DMV.

Actually, it'll be a "normal photo" there. Man, why didn't I think of that before??? My license photo is horrible and all sorts of people will be looking at it for years to come. Man, I'm starting to feel the trauma already.

I'm not picking on her as much as pointing out how asinine the whole thing is. The pooooor widdle thing has had her self-esteem marred by the big bad school, and her parents are demanding a pound of flesh (pardon the pun). Give me a break.

Who is saying her picture is so terrible? It's her parents.

What great parents. "Honey, your picture is hideous. It is so bad they might blackmail you with it twenty years from now." That's responsible parenting? That's concern for the little girl's well-being? These parents are abusing the child IMHO.

In that case, I agree. I guess having her pic on the front of the NY Post wasn't what they intended. It's in google for life now!

They airbrushed my horrendous acne out of my HS yearbook picture in the late 60s.

Oh, man, where were they when I was around. I had some pretty big pimples show up when I had my pictures taken. It was like they all would decide to have conventions on Picture Day. I still cringe when I look at my school zitures.

I really do feel sorry for the kid. It's just such a bizarre story.

Some parents want their kids to live in a protective bubble. That's why they are not prepared when they go out into the real world.

VERY VERY much agreed.

That'll make her feel better. I had a HORRIBLE picture one year. I was sweaty, my hair was messed up, I had a big 14 foot zit on my nose, and I closed my eyes during the picture to boot. My mom tried telling me that it wasn't that bad. It still got in the yearbook so that was that.

That's too funny. Thanks for sharing.

Fortunately, we now have a kind of instant photo -- you get it right after it's taken. So something like what happened to your mother shouldn't happen.

Unfortunately, though, the machines we have still don't take great pics. :)

Hey, when I complained to my dad about how terrible one of my yearbook pictures was, he said the camera only takes a picture of what's there. I stopped complaining after that.
