WASHINGTON — GOP leaders called on their Democratic counterparts Friday to denounce the comments of Sen. Dick Durbin (search), who earlier this week blasted the Guantanamo detainee camp.
House Republicans sent House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (search) a letter asking her to publicly condemn the No. 2 Senate Democrat's comments.
"Does the speech made by Senator Durbin also reflect your views as the House Democratic Leader? If not, we respectfully request that you publicly renounce Senator Durbin's comments. These sorts of irresponsible comments send the wrong message to our soldiers," stated the letter signed by House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and three other GOP leaders.
And Sen. Sam Brownback (search), R-Kan., told FOX News that he thinks Durbin's remarks are "clearly over the top."
Brownback urged lawmakers critical of the Guantanamo Bay prison facility to back away from talk advocating the camp's closure. "I would really hope that most people would back away from that and start focusing on the War on Terror," Brownback said.
On Thursday evening, Durbin went to the Senate floor to repeat the controversial statement he made two days earlier and insist he said nothing objectionable.
In the remarks first expressed on the Senate floor late Tuesday, the Illinois Democrat read the report of an FBI agent who described treatment of prisoners at the U.S. military facility at Guantanamo Bay (search), Cuba.

"If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags or some mad regime — Pol Pot or others — that had no concern for human beings," Durbin said.

McCain's in hiding and Hillary is calling for an Independent investigation into GITMO. Both are showing their true colors in their actions just as clearly as Durbin showed who he really was in words.
America denounces Treason which Democrats represent. And they denounce it's appeasers in their silence such as Senator McCain.
Temperature extremes are common in the desert.
I have seen pictures of housing in Cuba and I don't recall seeing any air conditioning units.
I don't recall seeing any in Afghanistan or in Iraq.
I would say that these terrorist are perfectly comfortable at 100 degrees.
This propaganda that Durbin is putting out is for the useful idiots that support the Democratic party; the foreigners that are following his comments are probably laughing at us, air conditioning indeed !

I would think that even Pelosi would have to condemn Durbin's remarks..........yeah right. In my dreams maybe.
It illustrates their corruption.
Otherwise they would be shaking with rage over these comments, knocking each other down to a microphone to denounce him.
I do have to give ADL credit. They've actually come out against Durbin. Evidently they still have a sense of right and wrong.

This traitor needs to resign or be taken out by way of a recall.
If the citizens of his State can't muster the courage to get rid of this guy, then that entire State should suffer a boycott.
We need to quit playing "nice nice" with these freaks and their supporters.
We should bring back dueling. Any Marine vs. Sen. Dick "Head" Durbin at 20 paces.
I hope that Republican Congressmen and Senators each stand on the floor of the legislature next week and individually call for repudiation of Durbin's insane comments by Democrats.
Durbin is such a coward that he wouldn't even show up. Or wait until the Marine turned his back and shoot him. Then, he'd be yelling "I didn't do it!"
But, but, but it would be better if Democrats were in charge so that Republicans would try to block illegal immigration. sarcasm/
Our soldiers are over there in that 100 degree heat wearing body armour and carrying heavy packs. God bless them, everyone.
